Theft Recovery in Canada

I'm really surprised anyone is going for this. It has to be people looking for parts, right? No way a car with this provenance is worth putting back on the road, unless the market is really that hot:

Too, bad because it's a gem otherwise.

Why is it that surprising?

The big question is the reserve. If it is under $5k, it makes sense to me as a rebuild.

It looks like a completely intact 88 roller coupe. You'd definitely like to see more details about what is missing or damaged -- especially the ignition and wiring harness -- and how long it has been sitting.

But if it is a car that only needs an engine and transmission to run & drive, at under 5 grand -- you have a bargain driver. Not much appreciation potential, but so what?

This would be a great basis for a build & drive car -- not so much if you are looking for a flip.

I guess that's the nut of it. The value is really dependent on whether or not you want to sell in the short term.

But right now it's at $5k with the reserve not met.

All I see is a dirty roller that's confused about its age located in a foreign country with very little to offer, with an aluminum tag pop riveted on the door pillar. You've got to be kidding.

The advertiser may be confused about it's age due to the goofy VIN -- but the car itself appears to be a very straight and complete 1988 rolling chassis, missing only the engine and transmission.

If it is a converted 1977, they did an incredibly thorough job -- down to the post-87 cruise control. I expect the cookie cutters are on there because the original wheels were taken when the thieves lifted the engine.

It is also a very cool color.

If the condition matches the pictures, this has a lot going for it as a parts car -- not sure what a breaker could get out of it minus the engine/trans.

The guy who may be willing to pay the most for this is someone who had a front end smash with his 87 or 88, and has an intact powerplant, ready to drop in.

I don't know what it is worth as it sits, but my sense is the seller is too optimistic.

I'd pay a grand for it if there was any way of ensuring registration in the states.

Is there anything porsche can do to fix the number plate issue? Can't they verify the vin? I thought they were supposed to have several plates.

Comparable Cars?

Provenance? Wait a minute, I thought the car was somewhere in Canada. PM me if you can put me on the trail of anything similar in the $5K range. Wouldn't surprise me if this one goes for twice that or better.

It is a nice roller, but with funky VIN and history will never bring big bucks. I put a bid in, but got immediately outbid by, IMHO ridiculous amount. BTW, I have 3.6 engine and G50 sitting in my shop, so it wouldn't cost me much to make nice driver out of it. Oh well.
