What's the peanut gallery take on the 1974 S in the classifieds?

Where does he say that it's a 911S?

Good point. The car has a 911S badge, but the VIN number decodes to a standard 911.

Sounds like a very optimistic price for a rusty, non-running, mid year that has been sitting for a while, has a mouse chewed interior (an wiring harness?) and probably has the wrong engine.

It is not insane in the realm of optimistic prices, but this looks like a "parts money" type project to me. It doesn't look bad from a needy project car standpoint, but that is more like $8-10k than $16k.

I wouldn't take rust on a 74 lightly.

Yeah the rust scares me aswell. Sad as a 1974 non sunroof is a great base to build a hot rod. Still eligible for lots of historic events.

I read the S off the engine cover.

This one is probably far too high a climb, eh?

I owned a 1974 911 and had to replace the floor boards which is almost standard operation. The rocker panel as it meets the front wheel well always rusted first. The first 2.7 (1974) was a great car all around. It was sold and shipped to New York. One of Jerry Seinfelds stage crew bought it.........................its probably still around New York City these days. This si not a bad price for a mid-year.

No one has mentioned the fact that the car has accident damage as well. Look at the pic of the VIN tag on the passenger side inner trunk panel. It looks to have been pounded back out very poorly.

In addition, the passenger side gap on the trunk lid is way off. Anyone buying this car will need a good body guy - and a good mechanic. That motor looks like it has sat outside for the last 20 years. It will probably be cheaper to just swap it out for a good 3.0SC motor.
