This is not a flip. Buyer purchased 8 months ago during a different market and then did significant modifications to bring it back towards stock, adding a lot of value to it.

Flip with added value! So what? Guy bought the car at seller's asking price, added value to the car and brought it up to market price and is now looking to sell it. Someone else may have bought it, raced it and crashed it, parted it out, or who knows? If you guys want to donate your cars or parts to the free market go ahead but don't stomp on people that pursue a fair living restoring old Porsches.

Yup...and if these guys will sell me any of their classic Porsches at the original prices and not the current market prices, as "not to be a flipper" I am all over that.

As sold:
1974 911 Carrera no sunroof chassis, yellow. VIN = 9114400422. Has a 1982 SC engine in it (would run in PCA stock "D" class). Exhaust = headers + SuperTrapp. Smart Racing Products suspension. Roll cage and fire extinguisher. Sparco seats and Team Tech belts. Sparco steering wheel. Fuel cell recently replaced. Fresh set of Nitto N1 tires. 2 sets of CC track wheels + 1 set of street wheels.[/img]

Currently for sale:

Removed roll bar, SPARCOs, fuel cell, harnesses, and other race stuff to get it closer to stock (or at least a street configuration); new interior with reupholstered seats & period wheel; Fuchs wheels; removed roll bar; partial repaint; H4 headlights added; sounds like rebuilt engine?

How much invested in that? Hard to say. $10-20 grand, depending on the quality of the paintwork and what (if anything) was done to the engine?

So $35-45k invested, asking $65k.

It looks like the seller did the following -

1. Replaced the Sparcos with a set of standard 911 seats.
2. Removed the rollbar.
3. Replaced the Supertrap with a stock muffler.
4. Re-installed the rear valence.
5. Replaced the steering wheel (?)
6. Repainted the front surfaces to address rock chips, etc.
7. Put Falken tires on the Fuchs that were included with the sale.

Perhaps more? It has definitely had a nice polish. The paint looks fantastic!

I believe that the motor had been refreshed by the previous owner. Also, it sounds like the fuel cell has been retained.

The original ad mentions "road wheels" but doesn't say if they were Fuchs. Would the Fuchs 7&8s currently on the car have been OE to a 74?

I can't see any reference to or photos of the fuel cell in the ebay ad. It may still be there. It would make sense to swap it out and sell it off with the other racing pieces. Plus, you would expect the ad to mention it if it is still there, as this is unusual in a car set up for street. That is why I assumed it was swapped with the rest of the track gear.

Which is another point -- whatever the current owner spent could have been offset by reselling the additional racing wheels and removed parts.

If the engine rebuild was from the PO, the new seller is probably into the car for well under $35k.

It's beyond me why the seller would chime in. The critics will remain critics, even given the fact that both the purchase and the sale were made by adults of their own free will.

Glad I saw this thread, it is valuable to the community. A friend was slightly interested in the car but not now with its history of being beat as a track car and recent alterations. Would of been picked up anyway with a PPI but now he doesn't need to bother to go this far. Funny no mention of the track use in the new add

Don't get me wrong it is a nice car in a good color but for $65k I would want a car that had not be messed with so much.

Does any of this really matter. It is still a $25k car and anyone who pays more overpaid. if anything originality would command more. A lot of money spent but wrong market.

Market has moved up a lot since it was last sold. I would say this car is worth at least 40k as it sits and if totally unmolested/original probably its an 80k car.

From the carpeting it does not look like a car that was loved. I would Never ever buy a car that previously had roll bars.

Not a chance. There is a very narrow market for modified cars like this today. If it was original low mileage it might see $50's but no where near $80k.

The focus in air cooled cars is not for a car like this and 74-75 are some of the tougher years for these cars.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your point. Are you suggesting this is just a modified mid year?

Its a 74 US Carrera. It is not just a 74-75 car. There is plenty of debate whether there SHOULD be a premium for US version Carreras since they were (performance wise) indistinct from a regular 911S.

But my understanding is that people are willing to pay a premium for them, and this appears to be one -- in a very desirable color. So it isn't "just a $25k car."

That being said, there is a lot of question about how its previous track use and non-original engine affect the value.

I can't see it being a $65k car by any measure. But what it actually is -- that is worth discussing.

The other thing about this car -- a lot of people see ads for highly modified cars and comment about what a car would be worth once the owner adds Fuchs wheels, returns it to stock, removes the track gear, etc. Well, this dealer did all that -- and is attempting to reap the benefit.
