This thread will also serve as an archive of what people are actually bidding ... Not what is being asked.
Only completed listings in this thread please.

The bids were about correct for that car. Very nice car, market value. I see similar coupes going for $32,000.

Yea, $32k will get you a G50 coupe with under 100k.

First, why don't you make an argument for what you think its worth and why?

I think the owner made a mistake not selling that car at $30k. It is nice, but it isn't anywhere close to the $39.5 "buy it now" he has on it.

He is posing it as a museum piece, and asking that kind of money -- and this car ain't that.

They say the A/C blows "ice cold." Could be. Doubt it will be in 6 months. It is still running R12, and looks like original non-barrier hoses. The fittings in the engine bay look almost new, but considering the degree of armor all in there, they might have just buffed them up. Pretty odd they didn't clean up the black spray where the A/C compressor blew out its guts. Looks like a rebuilt compressor with a new belt replaced the busted one.

Driver's seat has been repaired where one of the seams split. Aftermarket stereo. No tools. Paint looks nice, but hard to see detail on door dings & chips from the pics. If it doesn't have any it is highly unlikely the front end paint is original with 100k miles. I'd definitely measure the paint all over before buying "original paint".

$30k is about all the money for this car, and shows you how numerous pictures and good detailing get top money for good cars. Assuming you are smart enough to take it when offered.

Here's an Ebay sale that I was watching. I was trying to determine what the bottom is for a G50 Carrera.

1988 burned up Targa

Was this 'car' really worth $7100 ?

Might be if you need an engine.
$7000 is cheaper than an engine rebuild .

Maybe.

How confident would you be that the engine coming out of this car was "not compromised" as the ad claims? Does it run? Then how do they know?

I would not trust anything plastic or rubber on that motor, and that counts all the sensors and seals on the back of the motor. If you are giving anything more than a core price for it, you are taking a massive gamble.

The fuel injection is likely trashed -- certainly the DME and wiring harness are. Your car would need to have all that intact.

The motor and trans may have value, but if you are going to pay a shop to pull it and swap it, EVEN IF IT RUNS and doesn't need to be completely torn down, I bet it costs you more than $5k. And that plus the acquisition costs would more than pay for a top-end of the motor you already have…that wasn't in a fire.

Back to that white 87 Targa.

Something strange is going on with that sale.

In addition to the $30,101 auction end on Feb 24, it bid up to $35,200 on Feb 16, which is serious money for a G50 Targa with 100k.

Seller is optimistic to say the least.

I don't believe you can trust an unsold eBay auction to judge value, especially with all of the phantom bidders that may or may not be associated with the sellers of today.

Good point. Which is why I think something is fishy with the sale.

Unless the Ghost of Elvis owned it, $35k is more than top dollar for that car.

I was shopping for a wall clock a few years back and every time I bid, someone would bid me up within seconds by a few dollars. Eventually, the other bidder "won" and within seconds of the end of the auction, I received a second offer from the seller to purchase the clock at my last bid.

Ever since then, whenever I see something being bid up quickly over where it should sell, this is what I assume is happening.

I have bought and sold a handful or more of cars on eBay over the last 15 years. More often than not the sale is not done through eBay. The buyer sees the car on eBay and contacts me and then we work out the deal. Same goes for the way I have bought cars on eBay, I contact the seller, go see the car or have someone I trust go see it, decide on a PPI and then work out the deal.

Look at the completed sales section on eBay and see how many times a car appears to have sold and then gets re-listed, its a joke. Shill bidders? Phony buyers who never come through? Who knows?.

I agree with COLB where he says $30k is all the money for that car. IMHO thats spot on $30k is top dollar on that car and the seller would be wise to take it, its not a $39k car. On the other hand, maybe the seller is just putting it out there at a high price and if it sells great, if not no big deal.

Prices

My observations....generally speaking, under 100k, original paint, add more for rare colors, Targa and Coupes...with Coupes bring a little more if all equal. Cabs bring coupes prices...not counting special cars like M471 option, RSR, RS, etc.

Good G50 cars bring about $30,000..
Good Carrara cars 1984-86 bring about $28,000.
Good SC cars about $24,000.
Good 1976-77 cars about $20,000.
Good 1974-75 cars about $27,000.
Below 1974... Too many variables.

Turbos
1989 ?
1986-88 about $50,000
1978-79 about $60,000
1975-76 about $75,000

Nice car.
What they actually bid is not all that important since as you can see even auctions that appear to have ended with a sale often get re-listed.

Yes and still rising. Magnus bought a bunch and there is a big thread about them on Ferrrari chat. They (75-76) have become a blue chip collectable in the last couple of years.

I have seen a couple asking at the 175k level now in Europe.

Most of those cars are apples and oranges.

What is your point, other than the obvious that good cars sell for more than marginal cars?
