Please critique Ebay ad for my slate gray/red '66 911 featured in Excellence

The Excellence article is linked in the ad as is an extensive photo gallery. I plan to list it on eBay this Friday. Ideally I'd sell a car like this privately, but I have no idea what a non-numbers matching 911 like this is worth in this crazy market.

I know, I know...I deserve a ton of flak for being an opportunist and selling the car when it's in Excellence like everybody else does. Flame away if you wish.

But this is the marketplace discussion board and I'd really like suggestions on how to improve the ad or what to eliminate so it isn't book length.

Thanks for your input. Any guesses as to what it will get bid up to?

EDIT:

Auction has started: 1966 Porsche 911 Slate Gray Red Interior in Excellence Magazine No Reserve | eBay

Boy do I feel hoodwinked. I sent you a free Lackstift in Slate Gray because you seemed to want it as part of your beloved car. Now I see that you're just going to use it as part of your sales package. That wasn't very honest of you. I know two guys who really wanted that original paint for their glove boxes but I sent it to you because you responded first. Maybe you can send it back and I'll give it to somebody who is keeping it? - Matt

Sorry you feel that way, I did not intend to make it part of my "sales package". I didn't list it in the ad and wasn't planning to...I was just going to give it to the new owner who I'm sure would appreciate it greatly. Not sure why it would bother you that I'm selling the car to a new caretaker (you of all people who sells/flips tons of Porsches and parts), but I'll be happy to send it back to you if that's your wish.

No flames here. Instead of the information you seek, I'll offer my hopes for good luck on your sale. I hope that others will do likewise.

That's a very interesting ad. Do you know what Joachim (a.k.a. Jochen) Peiper did for a living, before he was a Porsche salesman?

Wasn't he Himmler's right hand man?

Btw, a few of your car pics are out of focus.

Thanks for the picture comment...you're right I chose the wrong photos to upload.

The Excellence article touches on this, but yes, he was indeed Himmler's adjutant before going on to perform more horrible atrocities on the battlefield. This topic has been hashed out on the OT forum already:

Very nice looking car. I love all the original documentation.....and the correct buyer will too and pay big bucks for it compared to a car without that extensive documentation.

What is your starting bid? 125k?

Best of luck with the sale. Hope that it does not just go to another rich guy who thinks that 911s are the flavor of the month.

Thanks for the compliments. I plan to start the bidding at $75,000 No Reserve. I'd love for it to fetch over $125k but remember it has over 227,000 miles and a non-numbers matching engine...not exactly a museum piece. The market is crazy for the 1965/66 cars though...it will be very interesting to see where the auction goes.

From what I can see $125k seems more than fair.

Slate Grey/ Red is the most desirable early color combo. If you don't believe me...ask Porsche...and Steve McQueen.

This car is 'all there' and shows wonderfully. The non-original motor only matters to a certain sub-set of buyers. Early 356s rarely are 'numbers matching'. The importance of the numbers all matching will erode as the cars become true museum pieces and impossible to find/ buy.

Your condition and color combo more than offsets the non-OE case. IMO.

I bet it goes over $125k....

Thanks for the link, I should've known there would be a thread on the Excellence story. Just read through it... wow.

Beautiful car, extensive documentation, good luck with the sale.

Cheers

Good car - Great story. I love to see people who can make money out of their hobby as do Matt, his brother, the weenie man, and a few others on this forum. I hope you make "a ton", but please do return the Lackstift.

BTW, please post more often; I imagine you have more info and stories than most.

Neat car. Have no idea what it will bring but I suspect quite a bit.

Nice level-headed, non-defensive answer. I hope you get $125k or more for that thing. Nice ad. Just be careful with cashier's checks - 'check' it first.

Thanks for saying that Richard...I do enjoy my hobby immensely and have been buying/selling/enjoying Porsches since I was 15 and bought a 924 with my lawnmowing money. I've been able to enjoy some great Porsches myself, and then pass them on to new caretakers. I love seeing the excitement the buyers have when the deal is done and they take their new baby home. Making money is a good bonus. Every car has it's own story, that's for sure, and I learn something new about Porsches with every one I own.

Yes the Lackstift is going back.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! I've had good luck with Cashiers Checks, but I do my due diligence and wait for the funds to clear my bank before the car leaves my possession.

Auction has started: 1966 Porsche 911 Slate Gray Red Interior in Excellence Magazine No Reserve | eBay

I have to say, Ebay has the worst auction building interface around. The photo uploading tool is the same one used since I started listing in 1998, and it still doesn't work properly and makes your photos look blurry. With as much money as they make, you'd think they'd update their user interface to something better than Windows 3.1

You sure can't beat their exposure, though.
