Top sale..... 1972 ST Tribute... $239,900

1972 Porsche 911 ST Coupe Tribute – Autokennel

This is got to be a top sale for 2016 in the Hot Rod category and a prime example of the exceptional cars still getting all the money......

$239,900 and theres holes in the bumpers? couldn't install the trim or have them filled?

Seriously a nice car, but why not finish it? Missing the fender grills too...

Wow! Over a quarter mil for a replica; albeit an exceptional one.

Sweet car.

The STs never had bumper trim,it adds weight. They either ran black decals, sponsor stickers or in some instances were left holes exposed like this one was done. It is correct.

Who buys this type of tribute for this type of money?

It is a well thought out build but it is more retro than an actual ST; 3.5L v 2.4L, modern suspension and cooling etc......

Sure it was listed at that price but did it actually sell at that price?

An impatient person. Someone unwilling to undertake the project but who loves the end result. Not me.

I know of several instances where people owned actual special cars and built reps to drive instead of putting the miles on the original. 901 Shop has done a couple of those, as have others. Years ago I had a client in the UK with an actual ST and while he drove the car, he spent nearly $100k doing up an engine and gearbox to put into the car and put the numbers matching stuff on the shelf. People with real money do things that don't make much sense to us punters.

Knowing Paul, how he does business and the speed of the sale it is safe to assume the car sold for very close to asking......

I'm not a rich man by any North American standard but if I had the $ this car would be something 'd consider and happily spend the money instead of time on.

That said I have a pre-boom priced impact car and do a lot of the style upgrades myself that I could afford to pay a mechanic to do - as long as it doesn't keep the car off the road (me doing a simple valve adjust would mean I wouldn't drive for like a month but me doing carpet or door panels or AC pull feels easy and takes 5 hours of fun and then I drive and have 'improved' my car)

Either way I love everything about this build

In my fantasy world, I'd probably consider buying or building something like this over buying, say, a Singer.

That's a step in the right direction, butt it's a shame that all the non-SUV models (those aren't even worth evaluating) look like bars of soap, big suppositories, or Barbie mobiles, except for the GT3s (with huge tails) and the most decked out Turbos!
