Value of 3.0 Carrera basketcase

I have a 76 3.0 Carrera targa that the body (fenders and bumpers) was modified to a quasi RSR, work very poorly done and needs to taken back to stock, car has been parked for about 10 years so this will need quite a bit of work and $$$ to bring back from the dead. Car is all there -no rust. Difficult to value project cars because you can't take value of a nice one and subtract repair costs, value would be less than 0 using that equation. Anyway I want to sell car at a fair price, probably list on ebay and see what happens.

Sounds like it may be a parts car. No value in restoring this as it seems too far gone. Parts on the other hand will sell and probably net you more $.

A 3.0 Carrera numbers matching with no rust but needing fender restoration a parts car? Are you joking?

I think you need to check the value of nice ones and you might rethink that assertion. I'm going to guess that on EBay this car will bring $15-20k and go back to Europe.

Yes, yes, no rust. And a 3.0. These were never parts cars, and now with the market - you guessed it - it still isn't a parts car. eBay it - you may be very surprised.

These cars are much in demand. NFW that's a parts car. Fix it, and get it running. You'll be happy with the result.

I'm trying to be conservative with my numbers because I have been accused of overstating values. I personally would n't be surprised to see it go over my estimate.

bleek 06-29-2014 11:36 AM

Clearly I'm off, lol. Will look up recent values as suggested.

Just bought a '77 3.0 Carrera Targa. It's matching numbers. Needs everything (paint, interior, mechanicals) but the motor ran 3 years ago and the body has no rust. Needs a color change back to original. Purchased for well less than $10K.

I will be restoring the car over the next 1-2 years.

Bloody well done there!

Guys thanks, have no intention of parting it out, they made less than 500 of these are they are damn nice cars. This one was fantastic prior to being molested, was originally ice green metallic, would look fantastic back to original color. Wish I had more space, time and $$. My plan was to list on ebay.

That color alone, even though it currently is not that color, adds value to the car. That's a hot color today.

Macroni 07-02-2014 03:09 PM

Great color.... worth restoration.... GLWS!

Ice Green!!!!!!!!!!

Here's what you can strive for.

I would be a lot of money to take the car back to that. BUT, the reward is obvious.

And it is more than likely that you'll get all your restoration money back on resale, because that green is pretty darn rare. Depends on the current condition of the car, of course. And how much of the restoration is DIY.

It's easy for me to spend your money, but if it were my car, I'd restore it all the way back to the original color.

I will be returning my Carrera 3.0 to its original Oak Green Metallic. It has a black interior with green tartan inserts.

It's currently a blue metallic.

pu911 07-04-2014 12:53 PM

Love to see pics of seats, I'm going to do a set of tartan sport seats for 77 paint to sample turbo Carrera.

I'm also restoring a '77 911S that has factory sport seats in black leather. I'm tempted to swap them into the Carrera but I think I should keep the standard tartan seats since they are original to the car.

I my mind's eye, that Oak Green over black/green tartan is pretty spectacular. I hope you do it soon - I'd love to see the results.
