78 911sc Targa Low Miles High Price

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/817230-1978-911sc-targa-39-913-miles.html

Looks like a gorgeous survivor, but I'm feeling like these asking prices are just getting a little silly... If I'm not mistaken, this was a $20k car 4 years ago

Asking price is not selling price, I know, but should I up my agreed value policy above $26k ??

It's not that far off on price compared to some I've seen here...cough...mid-year for $30k+...

Looks nice, he doesn't mention paintwork/re-spray. That is a big factor in top-dollar, collector low miles 911s. The stereo and speakers drilled into the door cards or other places he brags about are a big value downer. People want the original Blaupunkt and no aftermarket speakers for that price. This is not some $3k old BMW.

Everyone is shooting for the moon.

If you really wanted an original 78, factor in removing that non-stock wing, and that top is shot, needs recovering. What else is lurking that needs to be addressed? Before you know it you are over $40K, which opens up many better 911 options for the money.

So I'm thinking I'll raise my agreed value to $30k.

Then the car will be like I am for my wife...worth more dead

Targa/Cab prices are getting ridiculous but are completely static.

Maybe, but it looks legit to me -- the interior is pretty damn immaculate.

Yeah, it has some unfortunate mods -- and I really hate the rotated tach...especially in a stock street car.

But it is also a realistic price -- $32.5 is not cheap, but it isn't museum piece money either -- for a car with verifiable mileage under 40k.

I'm actually surprised it has not sold yet. This was not a $20k car 4 years ago. I was looking then and for $20k in 2010-2011, I would have bought it all day…….It was still $16-18k then for drivers that needed some repairs and with over 100k miles.
