Early warning; hot rod 73 Targa
Not quite ready to officially list it, but for the early birds and kibitzers, I'll be helping a pal sell his metallic blue 73.5 Targa with '89 3.2 engine.
It's one of those cars that you hesitate to call a project, because the heavy lifting is done, and the few cosmetic flaws it has can be dealt with or just ignored. It's very fast, as you'd imagine. The engine is stock (even has the cat on it) and starts and runs very well. We believe it's the original 7:31 transmission which would explain why it feels like a rocket ship. Gaps are good, the paint color is pretty rare. Chassis is rust free. Aluminum S calipers in the front... Only a couple issues: some chips in the paint, some missing minor trim pieces, later seats; and the tires are just a bit big for the wheels. Thinking $44K. Chew away. ![]() ![]()

There are lots of places on the car that seem to have the original paint and it appears to match. It was rarer than Gemini Blue Metallic, but there was a color in 73 simply called Blue Metallic. Paint tag is not on the car, however.

At any rate, if that car is worth $44k, the one I'm trying to buy must be worth about $65k, so that's good news. If the deal goes through, it will be for considerably less. ![]()

I don't trust your opinion on values. I think we have previously established that. I do trust that Techweenie wouldn't offer up a shafted out turd. I trust that the interior and chassis on this car will check out in accordance with his reputation. Your opinions are 2-3 years behind the actual market and you've confused your connections and buddy pricing you get offered with the open market.
You've mentioned half a dozen cars you are trying to buy in recent weeks. How many of those deals you close? Maybe you aren't offering enough. Last edited by Matt Monson; 06-11-2014 at 01:23 PM.. |

Complete, running T motors seem to be selling way south of $10k. What's it cost to drop a running 2.4 into a roller in the condition of the one above? If you can buy them fir a lot less than $25k, sounds like an easy living.

Yep. I wouldn't assume TW would put this out there if it wasn't at least condition 2. Take away the 3.2 engine, worth $6-8k and you've got my value of the roller. I don't just pull my opinions out of my bunghole.

That does not mean that it's a POS or not worth buying. Au contraire. It's a driver and he describes it as such. Yes, he's an honest seller but if you think that he only sells #2 and above cars, you just don't understand this whole condition thing. ![]()

And Bonus, that chart is for a numbers matching 911E. They made a "T", an "E" and an "S" back in those days. Totally different values today.
