do some interest generation here first. ebay may get you more exposure, but it may get you some exposure from unwanted folks and deadbeat bidders as well.

I sold a friend's 73 S on eBay last year. It is the best worldwide marketing platform. Although I had the cars on the forums first, I only got tire kickers and peanut gallery comments.

If I'm buying, I rarely look at eBay, preferring to scan the various forums.

But if I'm selling, I try eBay and link it to the forums.

Martin, IMO, it's better than even chances a 73S sold today will not go to Europe. Local values have pretty much outstripped what the Europeans are willing to pay. Remember, in many cases they must use a set of 3rd party eyes to inspect, then they have to ship and pay import duties...

I'm not nearly as in tune with the up-to-the-minute market as TW but I agree based on some conversations I've had recently. The cars are very valuable here.

Not an ebay fan. Lowball cruisers and fake bids aplenty. Never had any luck.

triplenet 07-10-2014 07:56 AM

Have only sold 1 car on Ebay, but had good luck.
We had an '06 Cayman S, got trade in offers from 3 dealers, listed car with reserve of about $2000 over top trade allowance. Car met reserve by $200.
Buyer and I talked before auction ended, I knew he was real, he knew we had a great car.
In the end, buyer and seller got a good deal.

I watch Ebay 911's, but have never bought a car on Ebay.

Have sold 2 cars on ebay. Painfree..sight unseen. Both buyers were very happy.

MARTIN AIDE 07-10-2014 08:33 AM

I guess it will give me an idea of what its really worth then.Is it better to put a reserve or start the entry bid high or???

triplenet 07-10-2014 08:51 AM

Start low to get people interested and bidding. Set your reserve at what you would let it go for. But, don't get a reputation of setting reserves so high that nothing sells.
I have bought and sold quite a lot of real estate via auction and that's what the pro's recommend.

speeder 07-10-2014 09:32 AM

Solid advice. ^^^

saamiii30 07-10-2014 10:10 AM

hiii ebay is world wide web app to buy and sale product i have used it many times.

MARTIN AIDE 07-10-2014 10:14 AM

Thanks guys, appreciate the help, now I just have to decide
better do it before that bubble pops lol

speeder 07-10-2014 10:19 AM

I don't see how you can hurt yourself putting it on eBay with good pictures and an honest description. It will get a zillion dollars worth of worldwide exposure and it costs nothing if the car does not sell on eBay. Start auction low and have a reserve. You want action, nothing looks worse than no-bid auctions, IMO. They either say that the market is not interested in the car for some reason or the seller is to be avoided because of unrealistic expectations, he's a scumbag, etc...

ebay has a flat fee when one list a car. They get nothing from the sale.

triplenet 07-10-2014 10:54 AM

Re: Ebay fees
Look at their fee structure, payment is not contingent on selling, they do not get a percentage.
I required an immediate deposit via Paypal of $500 minimum, balance to be paid by cashiers check. This reduces the Paypal cost. On my sale, since both seller and I were comfortable with each other, I didn't req. deposit, with full payment via Cashiers check. There are some scams regarding cashiers checks, so ask your banker how to protect yourself.

Resurrected this week-old thread because I've been busy completing a purchase of a car that I initially saw on the bay. Second "after e-bay" purchase I've made. It's a great place to advertise.

Cashier's checks - I have taken them when I went to the sellers bank, and they wrote it on the spot. Maybe there is a way to game that system, but it seems safe to me.
