Help pricing a highly modified twin turbo 964
 

Been tossing around the idea of listing this beast for sale. Much will depend on what current market pricing looks like. Granted, have idea of what I would need to get for it but would love from feed back for you all. Here's the list, and I am sure I am missing some things.

Base: 89 C4

Engine: 3.8 twin turbo
3.8 Mahle piston and cylender set

Car is built to run both E85 and pump gas

C2 turbo front bumper with custom turn signals

Like I said, I am sure I am missing things. AC has been removed. Currently car does not have heat but could be hooked up. Its fast, absurdly so. On E85 car made 630whp, 570whp on 91 (at 16psi). Its spools quick, full boost by 3800 rpms.

Usual minor issues. Some oil leaks, but perfect oil pressure. Great leak down numbers. Its a highly modified car, much like a race car, it requires attention. I drive the at least 3-4 times a week.

marketplace forum is great for this type of enquiries.

The car looks fantastic. Love it. THat being said I think it will be tough to sell at any kind of premium over a stock one of similar miles. In fact I think it will have to be discounted 25% over a stockish ofsett. The alternitive is waiting a while for the right buyser who will pay for the mods

Gorgeous car well done its a credit to you. It will appeal to someone who does not have an obsession for an original car like a lot of people do but I wouldn't change anything you have done it looks brilliant and would be a great drivers car. That being said thought it would appeal to someone who has a mindset for that vehicle.

I think it won't be an easy sell.

You'd have gotten more money if you'd left it stock... Do you have all the original pieces still?

Badass car. Honestly really hard to guess what it's worth. To me, I'd pay 55-60K for it. Is it still AWD? Just curious. Nice car bud.

the collector obsession with stock cars is NOT what performance cars are about :confused:

you have done to your car many things to make it fast live longer and drive better
so what if the hoarders do not value non-stock cars
the guys who drive their cars will understand the value added

Wow what a great car, I'd don't know my Porsche values so can't be much help but if I saw it at least $50 to 60K, i'd easily see the value in it.

A lot of folks say doing mods is not a problem because you can just put the original parts back on. This is just not true. It will cost thousands to make that car look and drive like it used to. Batman may want to take a look at it. Bottom line is that most folks looking for a 911 will want an original as possible car.

Fabulous car! And I'm an 'originality' guy. I hope you knew going in that you wouldn't get all your money back, but I will say that it should be worth a bunch more than an original C4.

The OP asked about current market pricing. I like modified cars as well but if he wants to get top dollar in the current market, originality will sell the quickest and for the highest dollar. Someone will come along and purchase the car but he might have to wait a while for that someone that matches his tastes and the car will have to be priced accordingly. Modified cars sold much better in the eighties, maybe those days will return...

Me personally? If it was that car selling next to a similar year/mileage original, stock 964 Turbo for the same price, I'd take the stock 964 in a second.

Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful car and well done, just not my cup of tea (over an original car).

Oh, and by the way... I drive the piss out of my car.

its just the nature of modding cars, you cant get back anywhere near what you put into them and usually not any more than stock.

People mod cars to their own taste and not everybodies taste is the same. I love this car but I think it is only worth 60k or so. Its not because I think that is a low value its because I think a pristine collector original cars are over priced.

Appreciate everyone's input. Well aware that this is a unique car and therefor will require a unique buyer. In no rush to sell, more curious as to what market was doing. Obviously if the right person came along and saw the value in it I would part with car.

Having modified cars before, usual rule of thumb is 40-50% of what you put in. But again, has to appeal to the right person.

Most of what you see are in fact porsche parts. Not sure if that is clear or not to everyone who has commented. Rear quarters are steel 965 turbo S. Mirrors are 935 race. Front and rear bumpers are Turbo S. Color is an original porsche factory color from late 60's.

Again, I do appreciate everyone's input. Regardless of whether I agree or not.

Easier sale and keep some of the mods.

If you want to sell that car, put it out there.. someone will gladly buy it!

Not everyone is buying based on market trends and originality.. the guy who wants an original car will look and pay for just that.

Whereas the guy who wants the ballsy modded street-brawler (such as yours) will gladly pay also. For him, the fact is that he doesn't have to do the work.

As for putting it back to stock, I would waste the time, money, or effort.

I think a factory front bumper and rear reflector, CF interior pieces put back to stock would do a lot to help the sale without much out of pocket.
Not everybody is a purist and it looks like the car is solid, built to go and look like a maniac. I dig it.
It sounds like you're realistic with the 40-50% return comment.. If you're serious about selling list at 60-70% and see what happens.

My car is for sale and is similar but has a more old school, 934ish vibe.....its the car in the ad listed above.

I have had 3-4 very interested parties (not sold yet) and one thing I will say is that the price is not the deciding factor. Meaning that, if this in the car these guys want they will buy it regardless of price within reason. Obviously, there needs to be a value justification but this becomes much more subjective with a highly modified car. The fact that the market is way up on turbo cars (930) helps as well.

The people I have dealt with so far are experienced Porsche owners with extensive track, racing or collecting backgrounds. So beyond the car being built right by a reputable shop, documentation is very important as well as the car being 100% finished, I have also offered to tweak the car for the next owner should they want firmer springs, additional engine tuning, different front bumper, etc.

The point is that you will be dealing with a very particular buyer and your car needs to be 100%.

Its a beautiful car....did you build it yourself or did a shop do the work?

Two questions:
Are you using the Getty rear reflector replacement panel or did you simply paint the reflector?
What are you doing for reverse lights? Did you have them rewired (so for example both indicators come on) or do you just not have reverse lights now?

My C4 project is a similar colour (tinted 997 Gt3 RS Slate Grey) :)
