Decisions decisions.....opinions wanted
My car search has yielded to possible suspects both low mile cargoes the first is a two owner 1978 911 SC targa with under 60,000 miles that has had a complete upper end rebuild, air-conditioning conversion, SSIs, but has weak paint but no accident history. There are about 22k in receipts from last two years.
Interior is spotless... The other possibility is a 1984 targa, one owner car with similar miles... And no engine work or body work is a very good original car, but has a few cosmetic issues..... They are both priced at the upper end of the market...at the same price point. High 20's to low thirties... They are non-red/black/white/silver cars. I guess the decision comes down to 3.0 vs 3.2.... And location. Thoughts...? Flame away... |

Drive them both then decide. The '78 with early exhaust will be similar performance as the '84 3.2. The '84 would probably get better mileage though, if that is important to you.

You won't notice the paint while you're driving it. From the limited info you provided, I like the '78 with fresh top-end and 22k of recent maintenance.

Looks like the SC owners are pushing for an SC decision... I'm a bigger fan of the 3.2, myself. You're going from a fairly crude fuel injection system on the SC to an engine management system on the 3.2.
A lot depends on the cosmetic issues. They can be pricey to fix.

not much SC left in my "SC"
![]() ![]() Been a long time since I drove a 3.2, but CIS in good shape works pretty well in my book. My preference in this case is based purely on the 22k of recent maintenance.

$22k in maintenance may not be worth all that much. I've got a receipt from an oil change for the PO of my car, they charged $25/quart for Mobil 1. Doesn't take long to account for some heavy numbers at shops like that.

World of difference between the two engines. Prices seem a little high though. Targas are harder to sell. I'm voting 78 coupe all the way.
