Previous Salvage Title Vs Current Salvage Title
Is a car that has a Previous Salvage Title recorded on both Carfax & Autocheck effected the same value wise as a car that has a Current Salvage Title.
ie the car shows as Salvage Title in another state over 10 years ago and thru transfer of Title between states that "Salvage" blemish has somehow disappeared ie Title Washed and the Current Title makes nil mention of salvage. |
Once salvage always salvage. Should be no difference

The fact that Carfax shows previous salvage title means it is a salvage title regardless of what that current piece of paper in your hand says.
Though the older they get the less it matters. Over time actual condition of the car will determine its value. A car with a salvage title may have required less repairs than a car that say rusting in a field for 20 years. |

A car that now has a clean title can be easily insured, and should be worth more than one that is currently branded. Its also more salable, as car dealers WILL buy a car based on its current title, and they won't buy one thats listed as a current salvage. I am not saying its worth the same as an unbranded car, but its clearly worth more than one with a currently branded title. Ask yourself this. You have 2 cars in front of you, both identical. Both with an accident history. Both Salvaged 10 years ago. One has a clean insurable title, one doesn't. Assuming you were going to buy one, which would you buy? If you don't believe me call your insurance agent. All that matters is the current title for their purposes. Its worth less, but its insurable. |
Hmmm ...... The part I really have trouble understanding is why/how it is possible or should be possible to "Wash" a title by simply re-registering the vehicle interstate.
The other part of "Salvage" that seems unfair is that there seems to be no specific info available from the state who salvages the car as to "why" it was salvaged. |
