Value: 1987 M491 Cabriolet White/Black/Black

Have a chance to pick up a project car that has been sitting for 3+ years:

'87 M491 Cab
91K miles
White Paint that can be rescued but has a few places where spot repair will be needed.
Black Interior needs a lot of help (I'll know how bad tonight)
The awesome 7 and 9x16" Fuchs are gone with non-name junk bolted up instead
Has space saver spare and jack but no tool kit
Engine turns over by hand, clutch slave works and trans shifts into all gears fine
No apparent accident damage (examined all frame areas underneath and in the frunk)
Did not get driven over curbing - underside looks great
Trans is dry and engine is filthy, greasy and wet
Brake calipers look great and are all from 1986
Looks unmolested or modified other than:
non-stock wheels
front fender lips were rolled and cracked the paint around them and the rear fender lips were cut, I guess they got "smart" and decided the rolling them would've cracked the paint
dreaded undeserved "turbo" badge
No early radio (what is in there is junk)

Clear Title (not salvage or theft recovered)

"Broken Throttle Cable" caused it to get parked and indeed the throttle linkage is very stiff at the motor.

I'm buying from a friend of a friend who picked it up to flip it. I trust the friend and his friend, but who knows about the last owner.

Thanks - I know that is not much to go on. I'll have a lot more detail after this evening. Going to take a lot of pictures.

Main issue - It's been sitting since 2006. It has the wrong wheels. Badge is wrong. Third brake light broken. Paint is tired but I think can made presentable without a respray. Motor and trans are probably fine but need to be resealed. Interior can be saved and has 8 way power heated seats. Does not have the original stereo or the toolkit.

Some more of the bad the front fender lips were rolled and cracked the paint around them and the rear fender lips were cut, I guess they got "smart" and decided the rolling them would've cracked the paint.

I wonder what the thinking is behind doing that? I mean, why further accentuate the "sheep in wolf's clothing" aspect? Very strange.

Wow, Chris. You really undersold that car!

Looks honest and original - that will be a great project for someone. Looks like it took some moist and fluids over the years.

Check for rust!

It has the books and all. And looking at the stamps in the book it spent its life in Ronnies hood, which might explain the white stuff all over the interior......looks like he was mostly riding shotgun...hmmmmmm!

Depending on mechanicals and rust it is somewhere between 20 and 35k, imo. A little elbow grease and spit will go a long way on this one!

Good luck.

Ps. you might have luck swapping it for Ronnies white 930. He cant handle the boost any more and has plugged up the turbo. Plus he really wants to flaunt his new head of hair in an open car for all the hosh posh people in Dallas to see!

Christian, well done, my friend!

BUTT, some points of contention:

1) white substance on the seat cannot be mine as non-boosters (as you call them) do not provide me with the stimulation necessary for the expulsion of such!

2) no way, no how on the suggested swap-a-roo, bub! For starters, cabs are just WRONG in the worst way (aka: I'm not a hairdresser or aerobics instructor). Secondly, non-boosted, widebody 911s are also just WRONG (for basically the same reasons that cabs are). Plus, I was able to un-plug the turbocharger - all I had to do was dig out the remains of a 912 it had ingested (hope it wasn't yours!!!)!

3) and lastly, stop talking about my "head" ya' pooftie poof !!!
