saving 'stock parts' 87 carrera
I have an 87 carrera I purchased in 2000 when the market was sane. It has been a joy to own and drive the past 14 years.
I don't look at it as an investment but rather my fun toy.I have no intention of selling it anytime soon. It was not a garage queen, but just a solid, honest, driver.like many of us, I have made modification and upgrades over the years such as Suspension, interior, wheels, etc. To suit my use. none of the modifications are irreversible. And I have hang hung onto all the original parts. I am NOT under a delusion that this is going to be a rare collectible someday. so, my question is do you think I should hang on to all of the stock partsor just get them out of my way and pass them on to somebody else that may be restoring One of these cars to stock.? Or will it make it easier for my heirs to sell it when I'm gone?

There are only so many 87 911 cars out there. Please save the parts for the next guy. Most buyers want an original car. I do. And for the money people are asking , it better be original! You see, other people do see an 87 Carrera as an investment and a fun toy. You can have the best of both worlds. If not, I would pass. If a terrific Carrera was worth $22,000 five years ago and in today's market it is worth $40,000+, then it is an investment.

It is nutty where prices have gone. In 2000 I only paid $14000 for aN 87 carrera clean never wrecked unmolested car with 80 K miles.
Counting maintenance, insurance and even a top end rebuild it's cost me an average of $1600 a year including original purchase price. To me that is a great ROI!

Save the parts…
What are you going to make on them anyway? I'd only sell them if I needed the money.

Many years ago at our best high end Porsche shop, Dieter's, a man came in with a unrestored (the real deal) 356 Speedster. He wanted Dieter to install a 911 motor in the car. Dieter told the man that it was a very special car and it should keep it's motor. So Dieter talked the man into selling the car to him and to buy a 911. My point is that while your 911 may be your car to do whatever you want, I think we all have a responsibility to keep these cars as original as we can. People always say that you can save the parts. But just look at this thread. How many people really do save the parts when they need room?
