A slight market correction does not a bubble popping make. Never gonna see a 930 like that below $50k again in this lifetime.

Dan,
Spot on. With the Buyer's fees the '86 seems correct, the '79 not so. If you saw the TV coverage even the Mecum Announcer could not believe the '79 went so low. Another '79 930 (with a proper 60K miles) was bid to $95,000 at the Russo and Steele Auction in Monterey last night but did not sell as it did not meet Reserve. (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/777746-notable-recent-sales-33.html) Bud .

The "car cannot be registered in CA" suggests a grey market car? Maybe there is still a grey market stigma on turbos?

I would not think that would make one dollar's difference on a car with true collector value. It's a white hot, worldwide market for the right cars. Check results from RM auction here last night. |

The 79 at mecum spent 15yrs in a barn probably needs a few things, plus it can't be California legal, not to mention that's typically a muscle car auction......price is about right.
Yes, the market is correcting for vehicle condition as it usually does. Could we see a muscle car bubble burst? Possibly, but not likely IMHO. Have we seen the ceiling? I think so and will experience a long period of price stability/flattening of the growth curve that goes along with the correction.

If you were there (Mecum) as I was you would have seen why this car didn't bring the money. As it needed alot. As most of the Porsches at Mecum. If they want to dip into the Higher price cars they need to do their research and Job. As there was also a 73 T that was represented as a original paint car. But as plain as day it had sanding marks and trash in the paint. But as a bubble or not which I believe not. The cars at R&M and Gooding, Did as I thought they would. Brought good money. Just my 2 cents. So again don't judge the market by junk. And what you hear on the net. A car is always worth what someone is willing to pay. Some are will to pay more.

This desperate need for a 'bubble pop' is sure spawning a lot of threads.

When shopping for insurance I equate it to dining out. You can eat at Acquerello or McDonalds. In the end its really all calories, Right? Lol ![]()
Maybe time to Sell'em if you gott'em.
this 1979 930 sold for 70k. 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo | Mecum Auctions[/ This car was on PCA for sale few months ago. May issue. Car was in Iowa and owner was asking $27,500. Speedo was replaced and he was not sure what the original miles were on the car prior to the speedo change. My buddy was in contact with the owner and had after few calls and emails. Car needed LOTS of work and many unknowns. With the buyers premium included, I think this car was sold at higher price than I would have expected. Bubble? Not sure about that. But who knows, guess we can revisit this subject in few years. |

i have my 79 thru state farm on an agreed upon valuepolciy with top liability and it runs about $400 / yr. i have all the cars, homeowners, umbrella policy w/ SF and have a been a customer for decades so i get a decent disount. i checked on Haggarty about 6 months ago and the same coverage would run about $1200 / yr.

77,500 seems like a solid price for the '86. I haven't seen any similar ones in the 6 figure range to justify their estimate? This one doesn't look like an honest 43k miles car IMHO, or at least wasn't looked after well - polished Fuchs instead of anodized, armor-all coated interior.
If the car was purchased in Beverly Hills, and is a no-go in california, it's gotta be modified. Catalytic removed, etc which makes the price even better for the seller.

Cars are not necessarily worth what someone is willing to pay. Mecum's job is to promote AND sell to the highest bidder.
Does anyone believe they really care what price they get? If so, check under your pillow tomorrow morning.
