69 911E Sport Targa - Price?
I'm planning on putting my 911E Sporto for sale in the next month or two and I'm struggling with pricing. The pricing for these things are all over the place regardless of condition and it's hard to establish the asking vs. selling prices.
Condition: - Very little body rust, three rust bubbles with no change in color/shape over the past 5 months - very little surface rust on the chassis and surface rust on the lower section of the battery box. - drivers door is bent at the lower hinge and doesn't align with the fender. Will need to be repaired - Interior needs new seats, new dash and near rear console cover. Carpet is in excellent shape - Targa top needs to be redone but it is water tight, I've washed it a couple of times and no water ingress so it's primarily cosmetic Mileage - estimating around 60 - 70k Fully documented from the time it was originally imported into Mexico, into the US, into Germany (TUV'ed and I have one plate) and back to the US. Includes some of the tools, jack, spare tire, fuchs and euro lights. The car runs very strong, tons of power, shifts like butter once the transmission warms up and no smoke at startup or when running. Very hard start though so it does need adjustment MFI engine is complete and I believe the car is matching numbers. I plan on taking a video driving the car to help explain how the Sporto works and also show how well the car runs. Any suggestions on pricing would be great. ![]() ![]()

I failed to mention that the interior doors are missing the lower storage compartments and the door skin should be replaced to make it perfect. If I were going to restore I would redo the entire interior with exception to the carpeting. The seats themselves are ok but the horsehair/foam is non existent and the houndstooth while in good shape has a 1" hole on the passenger side which is unfortunate because it could have been reused.
Let's put it this way, it's a great driver, not a show car.

Replacing the door shells or reskinning the doors means a full repaint, unless you get extremely lucky. Matching silver metallic is nearly impossible.
Because of that, I'd put the current market value closer to $50K, possibly $55, if the dash is perfect, carpet original, etc.

I think he may be talking about the inner door panels (cards) not the outer body door skins.

Thank you for the replies, that is helpful.
Looking at the Hagerty website at their 1 - 4 condition level, I would place this as a low level 3. It isn't missing much (door compartments) runs well but really would benefit from a full restoration. I drove it to work (90 mile round trip) last month and had a blast. Car ran even better after that trip but we all know Porsche's run better when they're driven! iluv911, thanks for the explanation regarding engine number location. I was able to find it as noted and it is a 69E engine. I just need to verify with Porsche if it matches up with the chassis. I'm pretty sure it does since the cars documents have been sporto all along and as you noted there are very few around and many were converted to manuals. Appreciate the help!
