Value of salvage 1998 c4s
I was considering picking this up when it was auction time but with over 4 days left for live auction and already up to 25k in pre bidding, I am out. Wanting you opinion, yes I know it is a desirable car but it still needs to be repaired and it is still a salvage title. I have found 993 c4s's clean title in the low 40's. Anyway I'm just venting. Here is a link to the car.

The current high bid of 25 k is too high in my opinion. Salvaged cars are almost impossible to sell. You were smart to back off. Tim

If I knew where there was a low $40's 993 S I would have already bought it and I'd be LMAO all the way home
... If you don't buy it please PM me the details :) |
Wasn't really asking for comments about low 40's c4s. But here you go bud, go laugh your ass off.

The 'rebuildable' world is very strange, with people sometimes paying near retail for wrecked cars.
And there are layers of companies between you and the auction, some requiring an 'annual fee' membership just for the privilege of paying too much for a car you then have to fix. In general, a salvage title late model car is worth 25-30% less than an equivalent 'clean title' car. |

I am amazed at the run up of prices for old muscle cars and ferraris. The owners even show what the cars looked like bfore they were repaired, and often times, the car looks like a total disaster. Yet, the buyers ignore the damage history. Some of those cars have been 50% replaced, and no one cares... It seems to me, once these cars reach a certain age and price point, it matters less... Once these cars reach 100k+, everything is repairable... its just a matter of money. Bo |

Very good point, Bo. A salvage title on a 356 is just 'patina.' Similarly, an early 70s 911 is in demand enough that a salvage title has little impact for (most) buyers. |
The car is at 33k right now with a day still left. Add auction fees and registration and then repair, you are really close to the going rate for clean options. Are the bidders forgetting all this?
