Need help appraising my 3.2 Carrera
 

Sadly, the time has come to sell my '86 Targa.

Since I bought it in '06 I haven't been following the market much (though I know that the low mileage G50 coupes have really gone up in value) so I thought I would consult the collective wisdom that is this forum!

Here are some details on mine and a few pics.

What do you think I should ask for it?

3rd owner; 240,000 miles; meteor grey metallic; black interior; always been serviced regularly at good LA-OC independents (TRE; Red Line; Haus of Performance; Aase).

Motor pulls strong; uses about a quart every 700-800 miles; small oil leak; just passed CA smog; but will need valve adjustment in 2-300 miles

Corner balanced, lowered, with a mildly aggressive track set up by Darrin at West End; newish Hankook Evos; new Bilstein sports all around; fresh trannie oil. Car has been safety inspected by P-car shops 7 times since I started doing track days in '12.

Dash uncracked; but driver's side seat torn; and Targa top rattles and is noisy at freeway speed.

New heater blower motors; rebuilt DME; AFM; and alternator in last three years.

A few stone chips and scratches on the respray (which was done in the original color before I bought the car). One of the Fuchs also scratched.

All original stickers in place and have the original owner's manual but not the service book or the window sticker. I do though have the name of the original owner!

In LA I would think $12k on the low end and $15k on the high end for quick sell. Could hold out for $17k but might take a year..Should be easy to sell @ $14k out there.

I think this is in the $17-19K range given today's market. Assuming the next owner buys it as a driver and doesn't need to put any major money into it immediately (aside from valve adjustment), I think the market will pay upper teens for this car.

It's a good color and appears to be a solid driver quality car. Plus you're in Southern California where the market seems especially hot for these cars.

You may be right, it does look like a clean original car. I don't think $18k would be unreasonable.

People are going to be disappointed it hasn't had a top end job yet, but regardless of that you should still be able to get in the upper teens.

The miles are going to eliminate 98% of Porsche buyers. However, there are German car fans - especially people with Mercedes ownership history - that will not see the miles as a red flag.

I think the color is appealing - assuming the repaint was done to a high standard. And if the interior looks good, you should be able to get somewhere in the $16-17K range. I'd ask $18.5K to start.

this car sounds like a terrific candidate for a daily driver... if you were on the east coast, i would gladly meet up with you to discuss the car and come up with a mutually agreeable price.

but, you're far from the east coast...

like others have said, i think you're looking at probably 15-16 sale price, but i'd start with an ask at 17-18.

I agree that the miles may scare off some potential buyers , especially 1st time 911 buyers. However don't get discouraged as I see the miles as a plus for the car.

As someone that's owned both a low mileage and a high mileage example of these cars, I'd rather take a higher mileage car that's been driven and maintained over a low mileage car needing thousands of dollars in deferred maintenance.

Sold this morning to a local guy. I'll include the price as this is the market place forum - $16,500.

It had a lot of miles, but I can't see anyone finding a car that runs as well as mine for under $20k.
