Quick question about 993 C4S values.

I was sent a link to a $70+k 993 C4S, and was told "they only made a few of these", but I can't find a reference.

How rare are these cars? It's a 6-speed, 1997, and the condition is pretty darn good, in and out, IMO. Which it should be considering it has a touch over 40k miles on the clock.

unconfirmed: http://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/144380-how-many-993-4s-were-produced.html
imo, these cars are not that rare, especially with over 40k miles.
if you are looking for a rare c4s, look for an unmolested garage queen from a private collection with less than 1-5k for $100-200k. good luck.

So, $70,000+ asking is a little bit tall? What would be a good number?

i don't know. price depends on condition. start with the vin, car fax, auto check and all paperwork. don't take the seller's word for service and condition. do you own due diligence.

many buyers focus on the price without knowing what they are getting. a good value is what you getting for what you are paying. so knowing what you are getting is actually the most important variable. what you are paying can be negotiated after PPI.

[facepalm]

Wow, no kidding? I must be like a freakin' newb who's never posted in this forum before.

Sheesh.

In what world is a 40k mi 1997 Porsche not a low mileage car? I think this thread is in bazaar land just like the EBay one.

Yeah. And I don't know anything I didn't know before.

According to wiki (with the usual caveat about the accuracy of the data )there where about 7000 C4S s made over 96-98. . Don't know the year by year break down but other than color choices there was little difference. Total 993 build is listed at slightly over 68,000 so no these aren't rare by at least my definition
As for price I can speak with some accuracy as I sold mine in November last year. A nice driver with 65 k miles sold in 2 days very close to asking of $57.5 k. Just cause I wanted to convince myself I haven't screwed up to badly I've been watching Rennlist etc. looks like prices have stayed in that range for that class of car. Really lows miles have increased especially C2S s. The bottom C2 higher miles cars have come up from lowish $30k to low $40k. All this "asking" price no idea actual sale/market. And of course the dealer net is asking 20% + on these numbers.
BTW I sold as I was doing more and more track days and was worrying over every little nick etc. ended up with what might be called a "beater" '04 GT3 and I'm have a ton of fun driving it at the track like I stole it. :D

Jim's reply is real world data, Eric. The rest is, well, Internet conjecture at best. $70k imo seems high. 100-200 seems dumb.

That's the way I was looking at it, too.

Is there a reason why you are you are asking rhetorical questions, or are you just trying to show how smart you are with over 3000 posts?? :D

I fail to see how asking how rare the car is is a rhetorical question...

They made a lot. But the cars continue to command original sticker price, which is mid to high $70s. These have never really dropped. At the time, I think 30-40% were built as Tiptronics.

It isn't.

And "rare" is sort of a subjective thing. According to production numbers, my DD Audi is more "rare" that the 993 C4S. But even if my car were in as good a shape as that car, with those kind of miles, it would not command a tenth of the price.

The comparison is with other 993s. If mid-70s is where this car lives, then the ask is reasonable.

993 c4s's we're never made with a tiptronic, no awd 993's were made with tiptronic.
