Help with vin

Hi guys I bought a 1975 911. The 5th VIN digit is a 4 which decodes to :

"4 - 914/6, 911 Carrera 2.7 129 kW 1974, Carrera 2.7 118/121 kW 1975, 924 Turbo"

The car doesn't have the original engine or trans. How would in know exactly what motor it had originally?

Also the 6th digit is a 0 which decides to:
0 - 911 Coupé, 924
1 - 911 Targa, 924
2 - 911 Coupé (Karmann)
3 - 914/6, 924
4 - 924

What's the difference between a 0 or a 4 on the chart above?

Sorry i know this is a real newbie question, any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome, newbie.

Sounds like you may have a 1975 US Carrera - the VIN would be 911540XXXX

That would have the 4 in fifth position... The 6th digit indicates coupe.

The factory can tell you the original engine number, but it would start with 645XXXX

OK, thanks for the info.

I was curious about the difference between a Karmann coupe and a coupe too. Google solved that mystery.

Cheers!
