Help with 89 930 Valuation

Hi, I've come across an opportunity to buy and would like some opinions on value and potential appreciation.
1989 930 Coupe, white, black interior with 55K miles.
Options:
- 09991 Exclusive program. Probably the rear fender vents, not sure if anything else
- 139/340heated seats
- 158 Monterey radio
- 383/387 Sport seats
- 494 2 speakers on back shelf
- 494 amplifier system
- 650 Sunroof
- 348 forged wheels grand prix white (matching)
- 220 locking differential
Appears to be all original paint in very good- excellent condition. Interior near perfect. Undercarriage etc very clean.

Will a COA give me any more info besides motor/trans numbers.

Thanks, Joe

coa will not really give you more than you have given us. I suspect that is a $75k + car...maybe more to a buyer looking for the 89. good luck!!

edit: I think I am well low in my estimate. I think it is in the 6 figure range. sorry to have spoken too quickly.

Do you have any photos you can post?
As you probably already know the 930 market is really hot right now.
The 89 is very collectible since it has a one year only G50/50 5 speed transmission.
Porsche only produced 579 89 US Coupes.
Recently another 89 with similar miles sold for $117,500.

Car is probably worth somewhere between $80k and $90k. As a reference, I recently listed my 1989 Turbo coupe with around 75k miles on ebay at $69k no reserve and it didn't sell. I'll start a separate thread about it...

I recently turned down an offer of $130k for my 33k mile '89 930 coupe in Baltic Blue over Cashmere. Given the described condition, I'd expect that car to sell for six figures.

I saw that car. It's an '89, which is very desirable, but from the photos/description it looks like it would take at least $20k in repairs (probably more) to make it right and get full value.

not a concern for anyone able to pony up 6 figures for a toy. 89's are fast becoming occasion cars...drive it to cars an coffee...take it out for a special run...

hardly the car you would be daily driving so operating costs seem a bit trivial. just my humble opinion.

Can you elaborate on what you believe the car needs?

I don't think the goal of anyone looking into my car is to make it a perfect car... It's a great car for someone who actually wants to drive his 930. And as it sits right now, it runs perfectly! Sure, you could fix the oil leak (which will probably be done over the winter), but that's never going to cost you $20k.

I seriously doubt that the car is in need of $20k in work. that takes you pretty far w/ a 930. this is not a vintage Ferrari.

it is a rare and robust beast where labor and parts are not exotic.

I think the seller will bet good money for the 89...it just needs to be packaged better.

I doubt I spend a $2000 per year. that would include tires, oil changes and valve adjustments over the course of my ownership. I have owned my current 930 for 12 years. it is my third 930.

Out of curiosity, I added up all my maintenance and gas bills for the last two summers... I'm at around $2.30/mile.

Perhaps, the OP's car is caught between the driver enthusiast market who can't afford it and the 'private showroom' folks.
fair point.

My point s that you'll need to spend that kind of money if you want to get the dollars these 89's can bring. Start with new paint. Possibly re-sealing the engine. Look at the drivers carpet. That looks like an interior that's going to need attention. Gotta put the Fuchs back on it. $20k can be gone in a flash.

If the car was 100% stock, and in top condition, it's probably an $80k car with those miles, in that color, and with non-original paint. If the car is $20k away from that condition, then it's probably a $60k car now.

The only thing that could make sense is the re-seal. The rest is irrelevant for a driver. Maybe the pictures don't do it justice, but the car is very presentable, both inside and out. I always get kudo's for how clean it is for such an old car. Anyway, I guess what you're saying is a driver is worth around $60k. Based on the result of my auction, market might have given you reason.

Sorry I should have been more clear. Your first post compared your car to the car being considered by the OP. My comments were in that vein. Just commenting on the significant difference in value between the two cars as described by each of you and what it would take for your car to be in the same league value-wise. I'm sure your car is an excellent driver but this is a value thread about a car that is well above driver condition.

Understood. I simply gave my car as an example for a recent market comparison point. As mentioned in my original post in this thread, I also valued the car considered by OP higher than my car.
