Impact to value---customized SC
Wow, it's been a while since I've been on this board!
Back to the topic at hand, I want to get back into the Porsche game. I would need your opinions regarding the value of a customized SC. Basically, the car in question is an '80 SC that has been fully customized to look like a 993 TT, from factory bumpers to rear quarters, wing, etc. The motor is the stock 3.0. Other than higher ride height vs a real 993tt, and the rear wheels looking slightly too forward in the wells, the job is very well done, no shoddy workmanship there. My question, what do you think this does to the value of the SC? I am assuming this drops the value of the car, regardless of the work that went into it. I'm just looking for educated opinions on the impact a 993 body conversion has on an SC. Thanks! |
People buy cars primarily on looks, The car you described does not look like and SC and is valued only in parts as a SC. It is also not a real 993TT, so limited value there compared to the real thing.
Now for a fun car to bomb around in, that is the value in this car. But remember what do you do when you need to sell it? |
Frankenporsche...this type of car has limited appeal but as ficke has said, might be a fun car to bomb around in.
I'm not sure who would want this car, or why, unless is was a giveaway price. |
I agree with you both. Yes, nice car to drive around in, and definitely not worth what a stock SC is. you hit the nail on the head when mentioning resale. That is my concern. Yes, the price is pretty good, but not a steal.

I think there are a lot of owners regretting the big changes they made to their car's appearance.
Its one thing to do some performance updates but another to make it look like something totally different. |

A lot of 911 owners say its OK to modify your car. All you need to do is keep the parts. But I have noticed right on this site that after several years many parts from these cars get sold or just get lost with different owners. Happens all the time.

I believe I've seen the ad for that car. Did you actually go see the car? Assuming the car is in good running condition, the asking price is probably 5k$ to 8k$ too high IMHO.

993tt that has been fully customized to look like a 80 SC but back to your car in question is it real 993tt bits or plastic [f/g] repro parts as I would think the real 993tt bits are worth alot then re-cover the car in lite plastic bits |
I'll probably go see the car out of curiosity, and we'll go from there. I too would prefer backdating rather than this car though... I think starting this thread has helped keep me in check ;)

And then, if we paraphrase the question and think how the value would be affected if the car body will remain totally stock but the drivetrain and suspension properly modified for better feel and performance; engine blueprinted, transmission improved or maybe replaced, torsion bars, sway bars shocks all replaced with performance variety, interior lightened and modified with better materials etc.?
