WTB 996...maybe

Silly, I know, but is it possible to get a 996 for under $10k? I know this is somewhat unrealistic but you never know until you ask. The lowest I have seen a 996 was about $9k but it didn't run. What are the chances of finding a running, high miles 996 for that kind of money?

Thanks for any comments and please be kind.

I'm sure you can find a running 996 for under $10,000 but it won't be in stellar condition. Not everybody cares for a pristine, showroom example and that's cool. Some even prefer a car that is a bit "worn in", they certainly have their benefits. A 996 at that price will be either rough and neglected or very high miles. Or salvage title.

You can sometimes find a well cared for and maintained car but with huge mileage for the price your looking for. I'd try to bump up your price at least a few thousand or spend a long time looking for the right car.

Everything has to be in California. The south frustrates me.

I am in the market as well. But I will phrase this a little different than jhollin9. I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest the market will give. How much should I expect to spend on a 996? I don't care so much about how it looks. I just want a safe, semi-reliable car that I can take to the track and have fun with.

I just want to make sure I am not over my head looking at cars out here.

The 996 forum has a thread called has the market bottomed out. Quite a few real world examples of what folks have bought and what they paid for them.
For something in track worthy condition I would be looking in the $15-20k range. Less expensive cars will be high mileage and due for things like a clutch, and therefore no saving.

Id take High mileage driver over a low milage sitter 996 anyday

Matt Monson 12-16-2014 06:42 AM

Who said anything about a sitter? A car that saw 6-8k mi a year will be right in the 75k mi range. That's a third of the car linked above.
