Value of 911 steering wheel?
Getting a stock wheel put back into my Carrera next week and was wondering the value the wheel that came with the car? The closest thing i can find on ebay is this but it doesn't have the solid gold crest in the center. Just curious, will most likely sell after i get it swapped out next week, the wheel is great but i just love the look of the stock ones.
Wheel currently on the car:

That looks like an aftermarket/non-original 930S style wheel.
They are around $400 new, plus the hub. I think around half used. Not sure the gold crest adds much value. A lot of people don't like the aftermarket version nearly as much as the factory part. There's a noticeable quality difference. Pelican Parts.com - 930S Steering Wheel |

I bought the 930S wheel from our host and it is fantastic quality. No noticeable difference of quality with any other 930s wheels that I have seen. Much better than the horrible Camry 4 post wheel that came with my car. With everything, the wheel, hub and crest was close to $500.. Before I bought it was impossible to find ANY 930 wheel under $400.

Also to note, I have never seen a 930 type wheel for anywhere near $200. The gold crest is about $60.00 from Porsche.

So you reckon around $300-350 is reasonable for a used one like this if a new one is 400?

I'll say this, and it's IMO.
It's a little tricky. There are many "versions" of this "930S" style wheel out there. It ranges from the factory model, which is very nice and IMO the highest quality (which you might expect from a Porsche factory part). These are usually pretty expensive, when you can find them. I've seen "ebay" versions that are very cheap. There are others that are in the middle. The factory version, in addition to using IMO the highest quality leather and craftsmanship, used a ONE PIECE covering. This gives it the best look of any of the versions. Here's a thread with pics of it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/837630-porsche-911-930-930s-sport-steering-wheel-genuine.html And a picture: ![]() Others use multiple pieces of leather (probably because it's less $ to manufacture it that way?), which results in many visible seams and joints. Like the one you have. (Compare the looks to the one in the link above). So, as far as price, there's a lot of confusion, which leads to odd pricing sometimes. IMO, people overpay for these quite a bit, maybe not knowing the differences in the versions and their values. For yours, the wheel is approximately $400 new, but the hub is around $125, so the whole assembly is roughly $550 or so, plus $60 for the crest. I'd guess $300-350 is probably a reasonable sales price. I wouldn't pay that much for that version (I much prefer the one piece look, and the embossed crest, but that's personal preference), but I'm sure there are others that would. This is a great looking style of wheel and very popular. Last edited by McLovin; 01-11-2015 at 06:20 PM.. |

The version of the 930s wheel from our host is from the original OEM manufacture. Very high quality and very tight leather. Do a search, you will not find a wheel like yours for under $400. But I have to ask, why would you want to go back to the skinny 4 post wheel with the huge plastic center? Even the MGB had a sports car steering wheel.

Nick - I just love the design of it, fits the interior styling of the car and looks really nice to me. I agree though its less practical than the others.

Well OK then! But remember your design wheel (930s type) was also installed in our very same interior.
