1975 IROC replica

I just saw this car in the for sale section. I can't believe it hasn't sold in a year and a half!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/766658-75-iroc-de-race-car-sale.html

Is he really asking too much? I'd be all over it if I was in the market for another Porsche. Although it's not numbers matching all original blah blah boring blah car, it's a pretty badass car for the money I think.

Definitely not everyone's taste. I have no idea what it would cost to make one, I'm sure it costs bigtime but in the end how many people care? Not many as it's been for sale that long. But it is cool to see an early impact car that was made into a special. Not done enough as it seems all the passion and hotrods go to the early cars.

I'd kill for that car! That said it's been "butchered" in the eyes of the purist. He could probably get that if it was a pristine 75 survivor. Doing what he did to that car (awesome as it is) significantly lowers the perspective buyer market. I'd put it up there with some of the "RS Tribute" cars out there and they seem to sell pretty quick. I don't understand this market. At all.

So to answer your question, yes, he's asking too much if it hasn't sold in 18 months.

Still though, this car should be allowed to be in RGruppe. It's pretty sweet the more I look at it. I'd remove all the decals. The wheels don't even look bad...and I usually can't stand non-stock wheels on cars.

It is a great race car, not a street car, and it has race/track time. People who are buying street cars are not looking at this car. Mid year cars are the least valuable of the 911's (but that is changing) coupled with the fact that to make this a streetable car again would be costly, trans rebuild, springs and shocks, exhaust, interior, etc. and what do you have in the end? a 80K hot rod. You can buy one done for that.
It is priced fair for a used race car and would cost a lot more than asking price to reproduce. but limited amount of race car buyers is why this car is not selling.

Oh, I thought it was a street/track car. I was sure I saw license plates on it.

Yes it has license plate, but read the description again, it is all about tracking and racing and made for a class racing, 'Historic Group spec. 5' this is not a street car.
"I'm not going to pursue full racing for the immediate future and need to part with the car." Should be a telling comment by the owner what kind of car it is.

Its got lights, wipers, carpet, full guages. Swap some less aggressive seats in. Swap in glass windows with crank regulators. You can tame the suspension a bit if its too harsh for you. Drive the snot out of it. Take a look at the original build thread, its not exotic its just done properly IMO. I'll be shocked if the car is still listed in a week.

This car looks a bit more tame and polished and look at the price he's asking....

Makes the black car look like a screaming good buy!!

11.7 to 1 C.R. race gas engine that probably has very little low end power, coil over teeth rattling racing suspension, short track high RPM highway engine speed gears, no heater, yeah you could drive it on the street, it would get old real quick. This is a great track car.
"Lots happened in 4 years. Plans changed, car is now being migrated as funds become available for HSR racing while building experience doing DEs. The engine and suspension upgrades makes it a dedicated track car but fun to drive." quoted from post #89 by the very honest and rightful proud owner in this thread
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/381843-darth-vaders-helmet-5.html
Once again very cool car that was built right and would take way more to duplicate, but the answer for why it has not sold, is, it is a very limited use Porsche without dumping more money in it .

I just sent this to a friend looking to buy a 911 two days ago, said it wasn't his cup of tea, broke my heart, this is exactly the type of 911 that appeals to me and it would cost a fortune to replicate

I think its fairly priced

75 911 hotrod

The guy did a noce job building this scheme, but then he caught th ebug and hios plans changed to full on track car most the way through the project long build Not uncommon.
The biggest problem to becoming a good streeter (hotrod) is all the suspension rubber has been removed & the ride will jar you fillings loose an dpull on every crowned road and make one totally unable to talk even to your passenger nor-less on the phone when cruising. The bigger deal: the compression ratio being I recall at 11.5:1, it is not able to run on pump gas even with twin plugs, even if seriously detuned(timing taken out) . Then with that BIG cam the" ign. timing out attempt: will make it even more soggy and asleep up to 4500-5K where one spends all their time driving on the street. Recall it was designed to Rev to 8K so way up their in designed power. These two issues will take some serious hours and dollars to remedy.

No denying the old adage(even moreso for the street or engines asked to last many many hours,) : :"there's no replacement for displacement". A nice 3.5 L up to 3.9 L would be great in there...

KR
