Strong money for an 1986 915 Carrera..... it appears Porsche's do well on BAT.

44K seems very fair for that car, imo.

EDIT: I take that back...That car was cheap - Great buy!

I think that was a steal. What a beautiful interior, great color, good service AND low miles!!!

That car was certainly all there. Great provenance from Vasek, low miles, great color combo, well maintained with records, and largely original except for a few desirable upgrades. The only thing missing is the whale tail option on the build sheet or in the description, but who could complain about that.
Interesting that the car sold for more than the original invoice, but still a bargain in today's market. I've seen worse sell for lots more.

Better to let the market catch up to a great car than to try to find a great car after the market has set the value.

Well said. I overpaid to get my car that had <20K on it. It now has >28K, and when I decide to sell, the buyer will have to "overpay" to get it too.

Looked to me like a great car at a fair price.
It was very amusing to read all of the banter about "Get a PPI".....
All of the "PPI doubters" are now left with out buying this car and an excuse to tell other why they don't have a 911.
There sure seems to be alot of tire kickers and doom sayers on BAT offering opinions with nothing in their garage.

Nice car and a solid price. Makes me happy to have a nice '86 in my own garage.

1986 is the last year of the full analog, full mechanical 911. Absolute end of an era.
40k for that car is cheap.

Many agree the 86 is special. Last year for the lighter 915 trans and biggest sway bars of the 3.2/915 run.

I have one on the radar that's <$30K with 'needs.' but can be enjoyed immediately...

I've always thought that the '86s were the best of the 3.2 cars...

I manually engage my injector cycle while driving. I think it gives me a greater connection with the automobile.

My list of new specials:

1) 1984 - First Year Carrera
2) 1983 - First Year For Cab
3) 1986 - Last Year For 915
4) 1989 - Last Year Old Body
5) 1974 - Last Year of Regular 911 Impact (at least in US)

Etc., etc...911 owners have lots of special years to choose from - and these will only catch on as the early stuff has shot to astronomical pricing. It's just a matter of figuring out what is the next to catch on.

Remember these are 'full mechanical' 911s.
I guess the EFI was overlooked.... the top (in cabs), clutch, brakes, and driver assistance would have been more precise.

Just a general statement on these cars:

I've found the 3.2 series to be amazingly durable, with 200K mile cars showing leakdown numbers of 4% or less. I think "low mileage" premiums are silly. Also in my experience, the ones needing valve guide replacement less than 1/2 the population of 3.2s. I believe Porsche got a bad batch of valve guides and some engines started using excessive oil in as little as 60K miles. So a low mileage car could have a pending surprise for the buyer... just sayin

Hi guys - long time reader first comment in this sub-forum. Great looking 911 under discussion. I realize provenance affects "value" (i.e. Paul Newman, raced in 24hrs LeMans etc) of a car but would the "Great provenance from Vasek," affect the strong money on this car, or any car? Ownership of car purchased at Holman in PA maybe the same then?
