89 Cabriolet $39K Just Listed I looked at it if You Want My Opinion

I just looked at the 89 cabriolet listed. Not as good as the ad sounds, PM me if you want my opinion.

The ad is pretty short and does not really say too much, imo.

Car looks ok from the few pics.

The part with the "refurbished" fan and shroud is kind of funny though.

If I were to sell my cars and list detailing like that the ad would be as long as a rolled up Jewish bible on a wooden stick!

I don't think his ad is overly descriptive.... looks like an 8 or 9 out of ten. All cars need something to fix. I'm guessing an 89 for 39k will seem like laughably low in a year.

Is it a secret opinion? This is the marketplace discussion forum, just say what you have to say.

OK.............. Cosmetically its a nice driver+. I drove the car and it does drive pretty good, going into first gear took some finesse, I don't know if it was the shifter or if it could be the trans or some other issue. Brakes felt good. The worst thing in my opinion is I was told the car was not smoking at all, this is not the case and its what scared me off. I was told " someone overfilled the oil and it leaked into the muffler" he told me he took it for a long drive and it was no longer smoking. I drove it about ten minutes and when I got back I parked it and rev'ed it up about 5 or 6 times and the smoke was pretty bad. I also smelled burning oil while driving it, it was dry underneath so? I was offered the car at $31K with a title from FL signed over to the seller but it was from a dealer and that title could not be transferred to another party, it was going to have to be re-titled in CA and he wasn't going to do that for the $31K. There is going to be some taxes and penalties when that CA title eventually gets issued in excess of $1000. There is also some electrical issues........ I didn't test any of the switches at the suggestion of the owner, the drivers seat buttons did nothing and I noted the oil tank level did not move at all, I didn't mess with the radio or AC/heat controls. Needs tires. I've been looking quite a while and was really hoping this was going to be the car to buy, it wasn't for me. I don't think the guy that posted the ad (lhoward) is the owner as he referred me to "Joe" as the owner when he responded to my wanted ad. I have been dealing with Joe on this car for over a month.

I don't know about that story, is it on this board?

I do know that the guy's name was Ryan that sold it to the dealer and the dealer was Lucky Driver Sports Cars

Nope - not the same car. The "daughter story" car in Florida car was a 1987, and supposedly had fewer miles. The lister of that car, "karguy", was outed in this forum as a flipper who couldn't seem to tell the truth about anything. To me that 87 looked like it might have been a nice car.

Would you like me to respond here because those are some tall claims you are making?

I will give you the benefit of doubt and if people are interested they can PM me for the other side.

Sorry it's not a perfect $50k car selling for $30k. It's not priced in perfect car territory so I don't get it

Yes I would like you to respond here. If I said something that is incorrect please let me know. I think you have been reading to many dealer ads if you think an ok car with a smoking eng is worth $39k. Also maybe you can clarify wether you are Joe or Lucas?

This is Lucas. I'm helping Joe sell the car since he is a dear friend. He actually has a response to the thread you started here.

"Steve
I was sent your post about the car. I just wanted to be sure u don't feel I misrepresented the car in any way.. I Told u everything I know and believe to be true about the car..including why I bought it..
Oil smoke, Minor Electrical issues, Shifting issue, And title transfer, I withheld nothing..
It would be nice if you were to make that clear.. The price reflected a good car that needed a little time and money spent on ot to make it a very good driver.. Nothing more nothing less.. I treated you with respect and never once tried to "sell" you the car.. Please do not cast dispersions .. Without telling the whole story.. That's just not cool. Feel free to post this if you like in it's entirety ..
Good luck with ur search..!!"

Compression and leak down number will be provided to anyone interested and are excellent. I will assist with a PPI if anyone is interested as well.

Text message on Tues Feb 5

"Just back from a 27 mile drive on the 210.. Drives nice.. No smoke at idle.. No smoke under acceleration.. No smoke on deceleration.. Lookin good.."

Gee it really sounds like to me you are saying there is no smoke in the above text. There was very noticeable smoke every time I rev the motor and a strong smell of smoke after a 10 minute drive. I didn't say in my opinion what the cause of the smoke was only what you told me you thought it was. Your ad in the for sale section makes no mention of smoke at all, maybe you should put that in there??????????

I dunno...there are an awful lot of smiley faces in this post, leading me to believe the poster is trying to be 1) cute, 2) snide, or 3) 'Joe' is really a girl named Joelene. Don't judge me on this, as it is just an observation.
