Cab to Coupe conversion
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1424104352.jpg
My question to the esteemed peanut gallery..... what do you think of this conversion? Does it lessen the performance integrity of the car? Any idea of what it would cost? Here is said conversion.... looks nice.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/851931-1973-porsche-911-rs-st-tribute.html |
The car must be in Boston and they've decided they'll never use a convertible again. Takes "cabin fever" to an all time high.
|
There's a rs tribute on eBay going for over 50k. Same thing cab to coupe.
I was wondering the value on something like that. Make me wanna convert the 74 Targa tub nobody wants into something like that |
After all that work, the payoff is a car that is neither coupe or cabriolet.
I would place my bets elsewhere. |
Why?
The cost of the conversion has to exceed to price differential of the model. I guess people are willing to do it just to prove it can be done. In the end, I think a conversion like this has an effect on value comparable to a rebuilt title. |
They could'a at LEAST made it a Sunroof Coupe !
sheesh...... The whole thing depends on Who did it and How. If you cut the posts it's a lot of work to weld the various layers of steel in the A pillars to maintain structural integrity. I don't see it as a bad thing at all, I would certainly advocate total transparency and full disclosure when and if selling the car. It certainly doesn't devalue the car or relegate it to Salvage status. |
In 5 years when cabs are the flavor of the month they can cut it off again and store it for 10 years and put it back on........
|
Somewhat misleading to title the ad "1973"!
I like the car but I'd wonder about the state of the donor that made the builder think it made sense to start with that. |
There is a lot of BS in the eBay listing about it being less weight than a standard coupe yet greater torsional stiffness.
Looks well done but who knows? Like everyone else asked.... why? |

Runout cabs were unwanted and a dime a dozen not that long ago, that's why. Don't believe the hype, targas and cabs are selling now because guys with the coupes are are not selling their coupes. |
Targas and cabs have always sold too.
The question is why go through the work to do the conversion why not just start with a coupe. |

Dime a dozen? Really? Cabs & coupes have been trading at about the same ratios since pretty much ever. Runout carreras and SC coupes were trading for parts values, too. Too easy to pick one up to justify this, other than an experiment in curiosity. |
I think the car looks amazing. I remember a guy who converted his targa into a coupe and folks applauding it. I don't think this is any different, if done correctly.
|
This peanut would like to answer the OP's question: no, it does not diminish the performance integrity, it stiffens the chassis.
I have a friend doing that very thing right now. I think the metal work will end up being $4K or so, plus the roof section. |
Thanks Tech......
Next questions.... How much for the roof section? Are they readily available? Luke |

80% of our 911 inventory is either targa or cabrio, i am considering making coupes as well.
Its not like the car can ever be too stiff rob |
