Beautiful original car with tons of documentation. Anything under 35k and the seller will be giving flipper money away, assuming mechanicals check out.

Just bid on the car.....cant meet reserve. I'm a loser.

Again.....beautiful classic SC with no extra options. Hope it goes to good home!

Decent looking car. I wonder what the actual mileage is. Its a ROW car with an MPH speedo / odo. It had to have been swapped at some point.

Just because its ROW car, that doesn't always mean the mileage is inaccurate. When my car came in and the speedo swap was done at NHS the Kilometers to Miles was accurately calculated and carried over when the re build and new speedo MPH face was installed. I have the receipts and documentation from NHS in 1986 to prove it.

That looks to be a really nice and rare car with the spec its in. I think 35k is cheap for this if it checks out as it looks.

Agreed.... but, if you were going to sell your car wouldn't you make it known in whatever listing you made for the car that the Speedo swap was correctly documented?

The car looks very very nice, perhaps I should have phrased my comment differently.

"Can anyone confirm that the mileage shown on the odo is accurate, given that the speedo would have had to have been swapped from one that read in KM's to the current one which reads in miles?"

please correct me if i'm wrong, but euro means no california smog cert or non cali car? no ac is not attractive for SoCal summers. otherwise i'd surely bid on this beautiful SC.

Looks like a great example. I see the car has the air pump and some other (undesirable) mods from the federalization process, so it's possible it could pass smog.

Front fender turn signal markers are missing which means that the car has been repainted at least once. No speedo swap documentation, no mention of when the car was imported, from where (although a german owners manual is included in the sale), and how many kilometers were on the car before being retitled in the State. The driver door jam pic shows that the paint code plate has silver paint overspray around the lower edge which means that the car has had a major repaint at some point in its life. The rear bumper is missing the hole for the rear foglight which was required in Germany. And the front bumper has no foglight holes or Euro license plate mounting holes. The Sun visors look baggy, which is pretty normal for a car this age with the usual higher miles. The 81K isn't higher miles though. The seller's ID is only 8 months old and has only 7 feedback, 3 of which are cars, so it seems likely that it's a dealer car.
Buyer beware. Anyone bidding here should do their homework.

Early euro SC's had the pump as well. Up to 80 if I recall correctly.

I cant see any overspray on the color code plate. Maybe my eyes or my ipad is playing tricks on me.

Christien,
Enlarge the pic and look at the lower right hand side corner. There is overspray. As mention, the front and rear bumper holes have been welded shut. The car has definitely had a repaint.

Blau,

I dont think it is overspray, just the lower corners of the plate that are a little raised. Anyway, nice to see that you are also a guy for details

Small side repeaters weren't added until Aug of '80for '81 model year on ROW cars so the car's front fenders are correct for the model year.

To me it does not look like its been re painted, at least in the door jambs. I can't tell from the exterior shots. The side marker lights were not introduced until 1981, this car is a 79 so it wouldn't have them. The car has had some federalization. Notice how the front reflectors have been added in place of the solid rubber bumper strips. Christian is correct the air pump was standard on all early SC's, the US car had a CAT added instead of the pre muffler you find on the RoW cars. The hole for teh fog light is below the bumper so you wouldn't be able to see that. I don't think anything has been welded shut.

I really like the rear wiper option and overall I think it looks like a very nice example. Downside is the seller is not very detailed in his description, so I'm not surprised there is scant detail about the KM speedo swap. That does suggest dealer to me.

Ultimately if its a well cared for example and has extensive service records of whats been done in terms of maintenance would it really matter ? Having had a few 911's and been through a couple of rebuilds personally I'd much rather have a high mile car with complete records, which has had regular attentive maintenance than a 'low miles' car that hasn't. Its a lot less expensive in the long run. If I was interested first thing I'd do is ask the seller for a PDF of copies of all the records. If it has records and the federalization papers and there are stamps in the original German manuals & service booklet you would be able to figure it out quickly.

Not all SC's had the lower front valence fog lamps. My car also originaly a German market car that was optioned without the front fog lights. It did come with the rear fog light next to the muffler exit pipe. The lower front valance still has the two indentations, but I have the original spec / option sheet (in German) that details everything on the car.

That picture Blau posted clearly shows tool mark on the door hinge bolts. That door has been off. Maybe for a respray?

I couldn't speculate on that, but I do know the plate that holds the middle hinge on the door, has little welds that are known to fail, There are quite a few threads on tech about it.

1979 911sc Ebay

Car is on it's way back to Ohio. Went out for the auctions, and drove it all week. Put 400 miles on it with no troubles at all! Wonderful driving car! The guy that had it listed on ebay bought from 28 year woman owner who I talked to today. Yes, he was a "flipper" but that's OK. He had it, and I wanted it! Great records, All papers from new,and all import papers. A little service from sitting a while and it will be ready for summer.
