Nonsense asking prices!!!!

I've been a car enthusiast since young age and when I had enough money to buy my first Porsche I did based on research, condition and market value. I think air cooled Porsches are amazing cars, but I just can't understand the idea of asking 25k for a car completely stripped out, pretty much falling apart, just because it does not have a sunroof. I understand it's a free market and we can ask whatever, but we have to agree it's nonsense or pure and simple speculation.

An old car business saying- you can always go down on the price but its impossible to go up.

Not anymore, the last 2 cars I bought, the sellers raised the price after we'd agreed to a price because people offered them more money after they told people the car was sold. Only one of the sellers was flipper...

When I placed my 1980 911sc for sale last year and the first two people who contacted me were from Germany. One of the guys sent someone over to see the car and the guy took a bunch of pictures. He did not buy the car, but one month later a local guy bought it here in Miami. The price was fair, 22k, for a car that was complete.

Price of the euro is a lot cheaper today then 2 years ago so the flow of cars back to Europe has slowed.

the euro will soon be worth the same as the US dollar-Europeans are slowing down on purchases here- I feel there will be a slow down in prices here as some cars will be coming backto USA

Prices can only go up, never down. Buy fast today or pay more tomorrow. Some folks may ask tomorrows price today but so what, the sun will set and rise then it will be tomorrow and the price will be even higher. No sunroof costs way more. Just be glad the seller doesnt have a barn or you would pay double or even more if you cannot get there until next week. Patina costs way more. Unrestored barn find with rusty patina? Forget about it, nobody can afford that. Puke green doubles the price unless combined with rusty patina and then its triple. If anyone who worked for Brumos back in the day or knows who Peter Gregg was ever owned it, price x50. The more mysterious the photos in the ad, the higher the price.

The early 911 market is pretty simple you see. :-)

prices will stabilize on average cars-it is the rare original cars that collectors are seeking.

If that's true, for God's sake keep it to yourself until the car's in your hands!

Good luck!

I guess the great thing about getting old is History even if two decades ago was witnessed personally. I am not clairvoyant and tend to discount the opinions of those who claim to be but I do remember a time when a friend was told 129,000 was all his 89 speedster would be worth..ever. He sold the car bought another P car that intrigued him even more and never looked back. Point is no one really knows what tomorrows hot ticket will be and really shouldn't care if you are an enthusiast just buy what you like and you can afford then enjoy the hell out of it. Should the car go up in value that's gravy, but if not who really cares? Like the market you are only going to lose when you sell should that happen so more of a reason to keep the car longer and enjoy it even more. Yes the car market is easy when reduced to these simple terms and is a low risk venture.

The speculation, flipping, exporting etc. etc. drives the market up I guess but where you going to be when it all shakes out and someone decided that The Honda Civic si from the 1980's is the new e ticket ride. You going to be enjoying your air cooled 911? Or rather seeking out a Civic?

What are they worth today? Good for your friend; that is what cars are for. If you want to make money, put it in an index fund and forget about it for 30 years.

I sold a real 1967 S for $2200 but that was in 1975 and I had bought it 6 mo earlier for $1200.
My father made a similar "killing" .He bought a 1927 Rolls Royce for $50 during WW2 Sold it after the war for $400. It,s all in the timing isn,t it.
