SSI value?

What is a pair of ~4 year old, pre-Dansk, thick flange 3-liter SSIs worth these days?

The comparable Dansk set is now $1933 at Pelican

blucille 03-27-2015 10:41 AM

$1200

andoni510 03-27-2015 05:40 PM

Just recently bought a very good condition Thick flange original SSI with complete oil lines for $1300

Kerschbaumer 03-28-2015 05:12 AM

uuummm, I live in Squamish BC and been sorta kinda looking for some reasonable priced SSI's for my 82 SC, I could be interested - any chance you are heading this way for a ski trip? :)

Farrell 03-28-2015 01:53 PM

yeah, i just paid about 1800 for my SSI with oil lines and M&K muffler.

Hi

Did you ever sell you SSI's? I see you are selling your Steve Wong Chip so wondering if the new motor means you dont need the SSI's

Regards

Mark

No way I'd let my pre-Dansk SSIs go for anything less than $2500.

dougcl 05-13-2015 08:02 PM

Can someone explain the difference between pre and post Dansk? I have both, and they appear to be identical.

SilberUrS6 05-13-2015 09:22 PM

Well, it might be that there is still old stock from SSI that Dansk is selling. But the hand-built works of art from SSI might not survive a big company like Dansk. That has always been the concern. The two might look identical, but are they? I don't think anyone knows yet.

gtc 05-14-2015 08:52 AM

No. I couldn't find a pair of 3.2 SSIs, so I went medieval on mine.

Yes, as if that somehow makes a difference. I still have all the stock parts, and swapping might take me all of an hour, if I don't take any breaks and work at it at a reasonable pace.

I just sold a set for $1500, seemed like a fair price for buyer/seller.

For instance, someone parting out an engine will sell the parts at a lower price compared to a 'true owner' actually using them.

LOL.

A part is worth what a part is worth. My 16x9 Fuchs aren't worth more because they are currently on the car. They are worth what 9x16 Fuchs are worth. Any car part, especially those that aren't made any more, are worth some fixed amount of money no matter where they are or what they are doing. My SSIs are not worth more because they are on the car. Because for some money above $2500, they can be off the car and in a box.

I wouldn't even consider installing them on my car for that amount.

It remains to be seen if Dansk can keep the quality high. If they can't, the real deal will be worth more.

Given their track record, I think $2500 for the real thing will be a bargain.

Eric, did you leave any errrrr, ummmmm, DNA on/in the heat exchanger ducting area(s)? Having done so might increase the price point for some (not me, buy maybe Christian?)!!!

That would be disgusting. So, more like something you would do. I understand that pee-max isn't going to buy my SSIs. But they aren't for sale, because I like them. :)

In fact, someone would have to offer me a lot more than $2500 to make me take them off. Just wait. If Dansk cuts the quality of these guys, the real SSIs will start trading hands for real money.

SSI vs Dansk

I seem to recall comparison photos and I think visually they look close to identical, but I do recall seeing fewer spot welds on the Dansk versions.

I bought a set of "leftover" flat flange for my planned backdate (I have some early large port heads I plan to use on my rebuild) just after the sale to Dansk. I recall John at SSI telling me that that the later SSI versions used a better grade stainless steel that would last an incredibly long time.

I am currently running a thick flange set on my SC and I remember being amazed at the fitment during the installation - as good (possibly better than) as the OEM exhaust.

Dansk makes good quality parts, but I doubt if they will take the time and have the craftsmen who will assemble them with the same care that SSI did. I'm keeping mine, they ain't making no more original SSI's...

+1 on the fitment. And I heard the same thing about the differences between the two makers. I'm with you - I'm not letting mine go.
