Can somebody explain to me how a 90,000 mile '95 993 is worth $60,000?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/819003-1995-911-coupe-super-rare-horizon-blue.html

I've watched this car (along with a handful of others from the same vendor) get bumped every few months for the past 6+ months.

What is the point of offering a car at a price nobody in their right mind would consider?

99% of dealer listings are a total waste of time.

Moderators need to let us comment on their posts without bumping them to the top.

I called this guy when this first came up. (the opening ask was $53K I think). He started our conversation by telling me that the price was non negoational and he would end the conversation if I even suggested it. Needless to say that was a short conversation, and A month later I saw it on Autotrader for $59K.

He is a dealer and I think he is way under water on this car. I love the Verizon blue on a 993 but that car, (with that mileage) is still about $10-$15 over priced.

That guy has always had high prices.

Hate sales-guy talk like that ".....Brakes that make you feel like someone is throwing a safe out of the car".

WTF...how does that feel and why would you throw a safe out of a car - has the idiot tried it?

Wouldn't throwing the safe out of the car make it go faster?

I'm confused.

Not just high prices but $20,000+ over current market prices.

His '86 has been for sale for almost a year.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/803523-1986-porsche-911-ruf-coupe-graphite-grey-57-000-miles.html

This '89 is priced at $20,000 over Hagery 2 values.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/835569-1989-911-25th-anniversary-coupe-satin-black-1-60-a.html

What is the point? I thought the point of being a dealer was to actually sell cars, not sit on inventory for 10+ months?

Also, a cursory search shows the most expensive H&R coilovers cost less than $3600, not $7000 and the full Fabspeed exhaust is $3500, not $5000.

He's just waiting for a bonehead buyer riding the "there's no end in sight" bandwagon.

If you are a dealer, 7+ months is a long time to park money in a single car.

Not a very productive use of capital unless you are convinced appreciation is going to outpace the profits on the 8-10 cars you could have bought/sold with that money over the same period.

Maybe he is driving it while it is "advertised"?

That would be a lot of inventory to drive since he has numerous cars that have been sitting for months on end.

I'm wondering if it's all consignment stuff that he puts out there as a flier in the off chance someone bites.

Consignment would make sense.

But still -- an owner that would park a car at a dealer for half a year must think of it as a piece of art, not something you drive. Weird.

I called him when I was just starting to look at air-cooled cars. Even then, being much less informed than currently, I could smell the BS miles away. I found out this guy who runs the place, Alex, used to find cars for Truespeed in Irvine, which is a good outfit from what I've heard, before he went out on his own.

He tried selling a car as his "personal car" on Reenlist and Six speed under a different name. Pulled the post after I let others know who he was. I don't know how this guys has survived. Got a sneaking suspicion he is related to Beverly Hills Car Club.

He has been sitting on some of those cars for many many months. No way he has them "in stock". My guess is they're consignments and the owners aren't really sellers but if you throw silly money at them they'll sell the car.

Most of the regular readers of this section have a good handle on the markets for these cars and that posters cars aren't selling anytime soon for those prices.

The guy is so delusional on his pricing and pretty unpleasant to talk to on the phone. His new listing is hilarious.

That's a good one - over the top asking price (it's black to boot).

At least the blue one is a very uncommon (unique?) color and worth some type of premium over the sea of red, black, white & silver ones in the 993 series...
