WTT 86 Coupe for 993
I would like to trade a 65k miles, '86 911 coupe for a similar condition 993.
Before the peanut gallery interjects with their smart @ss remarks (which I actually do thoroughly enjoy), I would add $$$ with the trade depending on the car. I am also open to a Cab, but prefer a coupe. I just purchased this 1986, Guards Red Porsche 911 Coupe in Dec. from a fellow Pelican member. Great car, well sorted, 65k documented miles (service records from the first owner to me), no leaks, no smoke, clean ppi (just some minor things like 1 direction of the power mirror not working). Recent smog test came back with flying colors...ran very clean. The problem, and I know some people love them, is that I am just not a fan of the 915 tranny. It felt fine on the test drive and my previous encounters, but I took a longer road trip and just can't be one with it. Of course my friend has a 95 993 coupe which I drove around and I guess I am a bit of a pansy as I like the more refined ride and the G50. I took out the AC condenser and compressor to shave about 18 lbs, both included in the sale (I did leave the hoses, blower, and the rest sealed up and intact). The fender guards are magnetic and can easily come off. I put very nice neoprene seat covers on, but you can see what is underneath in the slideshow. Would prefer to keep it and just start a collection, but one thing is preventing me from that which many of us can commiserate with: the wifey. Booo on her and her nagging. Car is going in for a PPI for straight sale. I am also in talks with a 993 seller. Hope everything syncs up. If the buyer and I do not come to an agreement on my car, I will ask if I may get a copy of the PPI and post results here.
-Mods, should I move this thread to CARS FOR SALE? |

And anyone who has ever driven both cars could easily tell the difference between a 3.2 and a 993. |

Especially if you can't tell an immediate and obvious difference between a 3.2 and a 993. Nobody cares if both are refined enough *for you*. The issue is the difference between the two cars. |

I think a 993 Targa has a much prettier roofline profile than a cab. But I understand there may be quite a weight penalty vs a coupe or even a cab?

Not only that, but the complexity of the system, and the limited production. The "cool" factor is there, for sure. But as a practical vehicle in a owning/operating sense, I think a cab or coupe are better choices.

Sadly, the 3.2 sold today but went to a great father and son who bought it together and live close by. They gave me an open invite to visit them...which I may take them up on. But knowing it is going to a good home helps.
Already picked up a 993 Cab....might as well enjoy the golden era of global warming. 79k miles....had the valves scoped and they looked clean. Compression came in at 195-200 and no leaks. Newer top motor...the downfall is the exterior is a 7/10. Hoping the detailer will be able to bring it up to an 8. In the body shop now for a bumper repaint....since it has to undergo that, going ahead with a Euro conversion. Car is cobalt, my 2nd choice with grey interior. leather will need to be refinished. But got it for $30k. As for the Targa....I actually like them a lot, but just another expensive aspect to maintain/fix. |
