I saw this thread in the parts for sale forum,

I'm curious is this a special motor making it worth this much? Have these old motors really gone up in a value as the cars have?

I have a twin plug 1989 3.3 litre turbo with lots of goodies and similar mileage, I figured it was worth close to $20k, shouldn't a a 930 motor be worth more than an NA motor?

Just curious...

Builds on early motors do bring good money. The fact it is a 2.7 allows the motor to be more period
correct for certain builds. It also allows use in vintage racing.

The 2.7 listed looks like a great build.
It has very expensive hard to source parts.
Note that it has MFI (mechanical fuel injection) and a twin plug setup with the correct period distributor.

First you've got to be kidding. Yeah, no.

No this motor is not worth that money. You could do all of this yourself to your 7R case AND have the records to prove it. No records? Word of mouth? This doesn't float with me when spending $27K on a motor. No idea of the compression ratio? Really, when asking this amount of coin for a motor?

Sorry, but none of the parts are particularly super duper rare. Save your money if you want this type of 2,7 and get it done by someone who will give you paperwork and history.

People here hold Tyson in high regard, so if they are curious about this engine's internal specifications they are more than welcome to ask him. I cannot answer certain questions as TLG did not the build the motor. Had we built the motor there would be a detailed invoice specifying what work we performed; the only information I can provide is via the owner (word of mouth) and what I've personally seen/done with regard to the long block outward.

I'd love an engine built by Tyson.

Anyone who has had an early engine, fully rebuilt (with the proper pieces) knows you can't build an engine like that for $10K, and when you add a few upgraded internals, the cost goes up, MFI is not cheap, and 7R cases aren't exactly all over the market.

HP for a early 911 engine is not cheap. The current engine project is a 3.2 being built to 3.5 (but was going to look like a 2.5)

If you are insuring your car is it possible to factor in a "special" engine? Or do you have to insure at rates based on a stock power plant?
