Weekly BaT Porsche: Black 1990 Cab, 73k

1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet | Bring a Trailer

Very original 1990 C2 Cabriolet, Black over tan. Original seats show the patina you would expect; maintains original head unit. Every claimed to work, including original A/C that appears to still be running R12.

Claimed records since 1997. No mention of engine work, and no bottom shots of motor. Write-up mentions the head gasket issue on these, but does not say it has been addressed. Owner claims it only drips a bit after sitting for a while.

Paintwork looks good, but has minor accident history:

Quote:
The rear bumper and deck lid were repaired after a low speed collision several years ago, and the front bumper cover, park lamp, side marker and headlight washer nozzle have also been replaced. All repairs were completed by professional shops and documentation is included. The accident history is reflected on the CarFax.
Includes tools, spare, compressor.

Interesting car to watch because although it is well above average condition wise, and is very original, it will not carry the extraordinary low mileage premium of the 80SC, and has accident history.

Plus, it is a Cab, not a coupe.

"Price is right" rules, fellas.

What say you?

$34,250. And if it does go at that price - well bought.
Head gasket stigma and accident history will hurt this one more than it should.

I thought these cars were searching for an identity for the longest time.... but they have grown on me over the years. This one has a nice color combo but accident history is going to hurt it..... and I would NEVER buy anything from Florida.

28k tops.

I don't follow 964s that closely, so I wanted to check around before throwing out a prediction. Low $40s is getting into 993 money.

A number of comparables floating around unsold in the high-30s.

The question is how do you balance the accident stigma with the BaT factor, which seems to be bringing top dollar for Porsches.

I was going to go in at $35,000, but since I started the thread, the owner has confirmed that the head gasket has NOT been done -- and hints that this is the spot that has a slight drip.

$31,000.

The pictures are photoshopped to death so its hard to get a real sense of the car. There are quite a few 964 cabs on the market which have gone unsold at high $30's for a few months now.

Accident... Early 964 issues... = low $30's my guess

C2 +1
manual +1
lowish mileage +1
cab -1
accident -1

If it was a coupe in would be in the mid 30s easily. Since it is a cab I will say $31,800

Some people assume cars from Florida have been exposed to too much humidity and would be subject to rust.

Personally I think any car needs to be assessed on its own regardless of location.

Titles can be "cleaned" just about anywhere.

The pictures on this one crack me up. They are so photoshopped you cant even get a real sense of the car.

Also ever notice one thing about every weirdo news story you see? They all happened in Florida.

Any potential for corrosion or title issues... I'll never buy a car from Florida. Yes, those can exist in any state but I'm dry state spoiled and don't want to deal with any possible corrosion.

I bought a Camaro from Florida. I'm just now getting rid of the last bit of rust. Sorry Florida guys, but unless it's kept in a humidity controlled environment, it rusts. Thank you for phosphoric acid!!!!

I agree with this on all cars with the exception of Florida. There is a laundry list of deception, weather, title fraud, and general dishonesty that plagues that state, making it an absolute NO GO ZONE. Like dating a girl from Vegas, was she a whore or a stripper at some point?.. maybe no but probably yes.

Didn't realize this was a game of pile on - We definitely have our share of weirdos - they seem to flock here like a moth drawn to a light bulb - and just like cars from the NE and midwest - that may have been subjected to salt on the road - it makes sense to do a PPI and a thorough checkout.

Yep. And when the time comes I don't think you will have any trouble selling your car just because it is in Florida.

You know what? If people don't want to consider a car because its from Florida or the north east... who cares? Thats their loss. You can wash titles in every state. There is humidity in most states. They use salt on the roads in dozens of states. Big Deal. Cars are not made of paper mache. Do some DD on the car.

People can make excuses for anything they want to justify. If you see a car in Florida you want. Get a PPI done, go put your hands on it and if it checks out buy it. My ex was an expert at justifying anything. I am an expert at justifying the money I spend on cars and bikes. LOL

Jeremy, I would laugh if someone passed on your car because its from Florida. When the time comes it will be a hot commodity. Its an extremely well engineered, built and documented car. The only thing I don't like about it is that its probably going to sell for more than I can justify tapping my funds for.

Now... all that being said... I am going to visit my folks in Florida next week for Mother's Day. Last year I bought / built my dad a 65 Mustang which was I transformed into a clone of the one he had when he was in the service back in 65. Its a Florida car now and I expect it to be in the pristine condition it was when I shipped it down in Oct or he is going to have a lot to answer for.
