Hagerty Market Assessment - Aircooled Porsche Still Strong
In June 2015 the Hagerty Market Rating, an indicator of the overall health of the collector-car market, dropped a third of a point to a score of 71.71, down from May 2015's record high of 72.04, the biggest decline in 14 months. All that said, as anyone close to the air-cooled Porsche, Ferrari and early Jaguar E-Type scene will tell you, certain models are still accelerating strongly. There was strong upward movement in insured values for the Ferrari 308/328, the Porsche 911/930 Turbo, and the Sunbeam Tiger.

I've always had an eye for a Ferrari 348 since those were new when I was getting to driving age. They seem to be hitting lows recently...wonder if they are next in line for appreciation.
Maintenance for Ferrari's isn't too bad...is it? ![]()

I always liked the 348 as well, but the Tifosi have given that model low marks, I think for poor handling, and high maintenance costs. This has kept the resale pricing down, constantly tempting me...

Engine out major service every 3-5 years for the 348 and budget around 5-6k for it. Aside from standard wear and tear items they are perfectly reliable without the costly list of potential "gotchas" like the F355. Don't expect the same level of fit and finish as a Porsche from the same era, but they're a special car and unique experience. |
