Need help pricing a 74 911 project
***Car is sold***, thanks all (see last post)
Member Mehoff got me thinking that it may be time to move this on and get my 63 mini cooper going. After many foot and shoulder surgeries and injuries, I'm working on getting my 2 story house ready for sale (stairs for me are a *****) and I've come to terms with that I may not have time to get the engine back together and the car running to sell. Oh yes, I'm buying a ranch style with no F'in stairs. (This auto correct kills me) The good, 74 911 (plain Jane 911) non sunroof car, steel wide body/slant conversion. RS door cards, manual windows. Electric seats (club). 135,000 miles MSD installed and spare MSD included Engine was taken down to block (case not opened). Heads were sent to Ollie's, 3 heads purchased from Ollie's (was cheaper than what 3 heads needed), valve job done on 6 heads. Jugs were sent to B&D, diamond honed. Measured standard/stock and rings purchased from Porsche. Cams were sent out for profiling. Bad news I didn't have the money for Webers so the profile is for CIS, not carb. Cams went to Dougherty racing cams (Camgrinder member) with rocker shafts. Noticed one day the brake lights were stuck on. Pedal assembly pulled and rebuilt, I plan on reinstalling for safety reasons. Was converting to hydraulic switch, still have the electric switch. Don't know if the case has been time-certed. I took a gamble and on reassembly it took the torque value no problem. I figured if it didn't it would be easy enough to tear down and do at that time. So jugs, heads, cam boxes, new timing chair ramps are on, cams ready to be installed. Rest of engine needs put back together and installed. Kevlar clutch installed on resurfaced flywheel (Fort Wayne Clutch). Under side solid and coated with what looks like Por-15. Bought a used bumper to do a custom rear bumper, to get ride of the large US spec ugly-assed bumperettes and clean up the back. May not be stock whale tail, looks larger.(see pics) The bad, aftermarket tach (although stock tach sourced and is included) Was an A/C car, PO removed the entire system. I planned on putting A/C back on and some parts sourced (condensers (2), controls and compressor bracket. Also have a 2 groove crank pulley.) Has stock oil cooler, I bought the steel pipes to mount a front cooler. All parts included . Have a pair of Carrera front struts w/spindles that go with the car. Also some Porsche cam tools, Wayne's book and a dial indicator with Z arm mounting. Little rust around the rear vents (turbo) and some on drivers door jam. Paint cracked around rear fender flairs. Looks like applied too thick. Can be sanded back, blended in. Aftermarket wheels, worn out Yok A008's. Dash is good except there's a crack at one of the speaker perforations.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430579779.jpg Few pics.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...FK911FRONT.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...JFK911REAR.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430579090.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430579174.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430579215.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430579918.jpg Too much info ? Not enough ? I know that's a lot of reading to weed through, just trying to give a fair idea about the car and get a more accurate and fair sale price. Thanks in advance, SxS aka Jonathan Klein email in profile, send a PM for phone #, Both myself and the car are in Ohio, although cell # is Arizona |
I don't think you will get much agreement with listing the slant nose/wide body conversion under the "good" column. I guess steel is better than fiberglass, though. Appeal is very selective on these, especially without the turbo power to go with the dp 935 looks.
The tail is definitely aftermarket. Finished it is probably a $25k car, and might be a tough sell at that number. I think it would be a huge mistake for you to sell it in pieces, especially since it sounds like you have already done 90% of the work on the motor -- including the expensive bits. Most of the value in this car is in the rebuilt engine. Since it sounds like you have all the parts, take a weekend or two to finish assembling the engine, and get it running and driving, and you are probably at $15-18k. Otherwise it is parts car money. |
As a prospective buyer/marketer, I find several things interesting about the car, including the later sport seats and the rare DP wheels. But it is difficult to go backwards ffrom a wide body, so the eventual buyer population is restricted a bit. There may be a percent of the population that still digs slant nose cars, and you only need one, after all. I think on balance, COLB is right, though I might be toward the lower end of the $15-18K range...

Problem I have is trying to get this house ready for market. No extra time right now to work on the car.
Know I'm hurting resale with it not running, but looking for a "project" price where someone could get a pretty good deal and I don't hurt ($$$) myself too much. I still can't spend a lot of time on my feet.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430591458.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430591547.jpg Yeah, I'm kinda screwed (in more ways than one). Second pic is before I had the broken screw replaced (with two) in my big toe. Have had 4 reconstructive foot surgeries. Hope I'm done. I've got a fair amount ($$$) into the engine, wondering if $10K is asking too much or too little. What do you guys think ? |
10k seems way too low to me. Heck, I'm interested at 10 if I can find
a place to put it ! It's a cool car. The mods work imo, especially in black :) The sport seats are in excellent condition , they alone are worth a bit. Add a turbo engine and you end up with this. It's a 74 so Cali buyers can mod away. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430595360.jpg P.S. Best wishes to your recovery... |
Rear flares are steel?
Was the trim replaced on windows are was the chrome painted? Either way it is a shame to black it out. Was the car black from the factory or another color? Por15 or other undercoat on a chassis was often used to hide rust issues. Pictures would help. |

1. Yes, steel 2. Yes, it was painted black before I bought it. I agree, looks like someone's "club" car from the 80's. Has two Denon power amps, was the shiz-nits back in the day. 3. I don't remember the name, it was a rather lime green. I shall call it Kermit. 4.Underside is very solid, we (our shop) put it on at customers request. Was Por15 or KBS coatings, don't remember. About the same. You can see some green peeking through in the engine bay. PS, edit: Not that it matters much, it has a Momo steering wheel and Momo shift knob also. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430606427.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430606542.jpg |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1430591458.jpg Seriously, my left knee looks like your foot - skateboard injury when I was 16. Still have four of those nasty screws in there. I mean if you want to get it sold (which sounds like you do) - $10K would do it, but I would do it to the RIGHT person who is looking for this type of deal and would continue what you started and finished it - not someone who's gonna tear the bodywork off and make it a 10 year project. Sell it to someone who has the passion to get it back on the road this summer. Someone needs to get this Disco Sled back on the road. It looks fine to drive around in in my book. |
You have my attention. That looks limonen gelb. That's the same color as was special ordered on my '86 and as was factory spec on my '74 bumblebee. I'm your huckleberry.
What I mean is that I have a genuine interest in your car. If you want to speak privately my email is gtgears@yahoo.com |
Here is what this car might have looked like before Obi-wan chopped his arms off and he went to the dark side:

Mine was from growing too fast. Went from 5'6" to 6'1" and from size 9 to 13.5 all in one short summer. Just grew too fast. Not sure if I'll have as much room in the next house (garage) so it may make my life more simple to sell now. |
Some VIN detectives want the VIN.
9114102287 (Guess their hoping it's an 74 RSR);) |
very hot color awesome up close, I think Porschecab's 75 Carrera with a 3.6 is that color
|
Cool car, but is that a Vector behind it?!

Like to thank those that took the time to give me input. Seems most posters don't go back and update their original post or thank those that took the time to try to help.SmileWavy
I don't mind being called a prick. I do mind being called an ungrateful prick. Car is sold, waiting on pick up. SXSMAN, aka Jonathan Klein Damn, just saw my post count. 666 Reason I sold it ? To quote Flip Wilson as Geraldine "The Devil made me do it, ahh haa" |
