Price for cross country enclosed transport?
Does anyone have a ballpark for a CA - NY move in an enclosed transporter? Don't need white glove service, just something better than your typical hauler.

I used Montway and paid about $950 a few weeks ago for enclosed transport of my "new" 968 from Florida to New Jersey. Note that the are brokers - the actual transport company was Stooney's Auto Transport. You can get a quote on Montway's website fairly quickly.

Beware the bidded services like U Ship. A broker will commit to any price and then go after truckers to do it at that price.
If you can talk directly with the trucking company, expect $1800-2200 for good enclosed service depending on pick-up and drop off points.

This is germane to my interests as well.
I need to get two non-running MKI Mini's from east coast to west coast including +/- 2 tons of parts that will be crated. Currently quoted $2,600, which seemed high to me for these little guys (but may not be after reading this thread). Any recommendations? |

2 cars plus 2 tons of crated parts for $2600 is a bargain.

Avoid U-Ship at all costs, and this is why. I sold a 356 to a guy a few years ago, he didn't want to use my shipper, he saved $100 on U-ship, well, they double booked, so three rednecks show up in a converted motor home full of furniture, full of furniture!!! They un-loaded the furniture, loaded the 356, and re-loaded the couch on top of said 356.
If it is a car you care about use a reputable service like Intercity Lines, we just shipped a one owner 911E to Arizona, it cost $2200, worth every penny. You can read a whole post on my blog about nightmares of shipping Porsches. https://unobtaniuminc.wordpress.com/2012/02/18/bad-transporting-of-porsches/ ---Adam ![]() ![]()

My U-Ship story:
Sold a guy an Italian scooter on eBay. Guy shows up with a trailer and inside were myriad items, ranging from motorcycles to a fishing tank. I got busy with life, assumed all was OK. I get a call FOUR months later. "Hey, have any idea where that shipper is with my scooter?" I told him I had absolutely no idea. The shipper named 'Skip' told me he would have in in Georgia in a week (from California). Seems old Skip had some law trouble and got his truck (and trailer) impounded in Kansas with said scooter on it. Oh well. I did not arrange the shipping. I did not go into tracking this guy down. |

Wow. U ship sounds like its about as good as uhaul. And the stories I could tell about last time I was in a uhaul retail location are not family appropriate.
Thanks for the tip on Montway - $1669 was their discounted price for enclosed transport, non running vehicle. I do prefer to deal with principals rather than brokers. Anyone have any other enclosed carriers they liked working with?

I saw what was left after Intercity dropped a Ferrari f355 Challenge off of the top deck of one of their transporters. Took months to cough up the cash for the totaled Ferrari.

Quick update: my broker (car broker not transport broker) was able to talk one of the large covered transport guys into counting the mini's as 1 car because they can be stacked (side to side). $1,700 for the cars (with about 1 ton of parts shoved into them)

Shipping
Been researching this for the last two weeks. Prices for enclosed from Arizona to NC are around $2000 on average, got quotes from intercity, reliable and others. This is a terrible industry to have to deal with. Most shippers are brokers, they quote a price and then look for truckers to pick the car up at that price. You can go to auto transport reviews website to see their reviews. Most have great reviews and horror stories. If you go to low on the price your car may not get picked up, then the price keeps going up. There are so many shipping companies it is really hard to pick one. Also don't use one of the quoting sites, you will get a thousand phone calls and emails.

Well, I bought the car I need transported so now it's time to pull the trigger on transport. I have a quote for 2100 ca to ny from intercity. It's a roller not a driver. Sounds about right or worth shopping around? Reliable was way over that number. Intercity said 2 wks til pickup then a call ahead 24h from pickup.

I've used uship on a dozen or so moves and since I pick who my shipper is I haven't had the first problem. I've had complicated multiple stop moves without issues. Haven't used brokers, only primaries. Had a Manx sr moved from Los angeles to Alabama for 600. Open trailer since it was a resto car. Be careful and be smart but I have nothing but praise for uship. Just lucky, knock on wood.

Thanks for the offer - I just had a great experience with Montway (the broker) and JRom (the carrier). They got their 18 wheeler right up to my driveway, which is no small feat. Very friendly and communicative and $500 less than Intercity for enclosed door to door.
