Where are all the middies?

I've been trying to estimate a reasonable value for my 77S and I just don't see many like it come up for sale. Maybe they do come up proportionally for how many were made. I have a couple of theories, anybody else got any?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1434515183.jpg

I think you are right -- there don't seem to be as many mids for sale. Maybe because fewer were made, and a lot more of them got junked/parted out than later or earlier cars.

But for surviving cars, the market for impact bumper 911s is converging.

Unlike 5 years ago, when series (mid, SC, Carrera w/915 , Carrera w/G50) made a big difference in value, the value ranges of the series now overlap much more.

Condition (and originality), provenance, color, and mileage matter more.

Top mid-years are selling in the $40s. Tired but intact runners are selling in the low $20s. Rusty, non-runners in the teens. S-model 74s are selling at a premium, but the rest are about the same.

More details and pics would probably get a better response. Coupe is good, original narrow flares are good. Tail is bad, and Guards Red is a small knock just because it is common.

I agree too. These cars were beat down, then poorly modified in the 80s/90s and finally parted out.

But when the good cars are mechanically sorted out and upgraded, they become great cars. Following the trend of early 911 cars the mid years have bright trim, narrow bodies, lighter weight and unique 70's color schemes. All of these features add value.

Please post more info on your car; updates, records, any rust etc. Still running a 2.7? Was it originally red?

I bought my 77 coupe 6 months ago for $25k. It has all the mid-year needed updates and record dating back to the 80s. 93k mi. No rust. Many performance/suspension upgrades and no cosmetic upgrades except 16" Fuch (if that even counts). Here is the original ad for the car that was picked up by a car blog.

That's a beautiful middie that you have there! I'd like to know where they've all gone as well as I'd love to find a nice, solid mid-year.

I picked up my mid 3 years ago for 16k. Fully rebuilt in every way. This is how she looked the day I got her home.

This is just one data point, but my '77 went back home to Germany. I found a buyer via craigslist in San Francisco who claimed to be an enthusiast - but when the truck arrived it was heading to an exporter. Back then I thought it was because Europeans liked unusual colors - and I was happy, realizing I'd had a good time with the car without losing any head studs (I was holding my breath.) Now, of course, I miss it.

My wife is going to be selling her 77 911s with 3.0 and webers. Also, comes with the original 2.7. She lost the storage space for the car. The car is very solid and originally black. Runs strong and certified no problem. Any ideas of going prices? I will get some pictures up.

Hagerty seems to be behind on the middies (or maybe they are not?) and not many comps available with this set up.

I apologize if I need to move the question elsewhere. Thank you in advance.

I've got a '77 911S Targa in Sienna Metallic for sale.

Original Black Recaro Sport Seats, Fully Loaded. Fresh top end and case seal 5,000 miles ago. All the 2.7 upgrades are done. Southern car it's whole life.

Here is two more. I love them! Black one back on original wheels now and getting some fresh paint.
Blue one has not run in a long time and is next in line for a full service. Both low mile cars.

LOVE that blue one! Is that Gulf Blue?

Has it been repainted to that, or was it paint to sample?

There was a Polar Blue in 76-77 that looked similar:

It is an original Gulf Blue car with a tartan interior.

There are about two dozen middies 'hiding' on ebay if you want to get an idea of asking prices.

True. I haven't been diligent on keeping an eye on ebay or other sources like Rennlist. Looking at recent sales of middies on ebay, I missed out on a couple of cars that would have been perfect. I just wasn't paying attention...

Karl,
You really need to show off the interior!
