Thought I made a deal on a car from a fellow forum member :(

So

I find a car posted on here and the seller and I discuss a final price of 42k. I sent a deposit via paypal right away and in the notes put in the selling price less the deposit. This was yesterday.
I get my truck and trailer ready to head out first thing Monday morning to pick it up (about 4-5 hours each way).

I get a text today stating he would wants an extra 1500.00 for the tool kit now. He said "I never told you it came with the tool kit"

Stuff like this makes me so pissed off and people like this ruin this great hobby for me and others.

I told him to stick it and send my deposit back. There will always be another car but I refuse to do business with people like this.

Just venting.........

This Porsche hobby is becoming peppered with more and more Ferrari shenanigans everyday.

Sorry to hear. $1500 for the toolkit? You could have probably found one cheaper.

What's next? "Sorry, the engine, steering wheel, Fuchs no longer come with it...that'll be an extra $15000."

I don't know the seller, but the ad, which is still up, makes no mention of a tool kit. It's basically a race car. I can't say that I would have had any expectation that the car would have a tool kit to be honest. And when he tried to plug in the add-on sale after making the deal, I would have just passed. I would love to have that Pat William built engine in my car. If it were me I wouldn't be walking away over some silly wrenches and a carry case. But to each his own.

A race car? Wrong car.

And yes I will walk away from any seller like this. There will always be another car for sale.

Not this car?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/990093-fs-1973-911-coupe-2-7-liter-rs-spec-motor-built-pwr.html

Ask is $55k and you got him down to $42.5k? That's more than 20% below his ask. Like I said, I would be happy with that deal, and wouldn't kill it over an overpriced tool kit.

If it's not that one, show us the car. You've riled up the pitchfork crowd here, but we clearly don't have the whole story. I'm an innocent until proven guilty sort of guy. I haven't seen enough evidence to convict anyone of any bad behaviour so far, but I'm open to being convinced.

You want an 86 coupe? Buy this one:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-wanted-wtb-wtt/986766-wtt-my-1986-coupe-your-targa.html

But it doesn't have it's original tool kit. I bought a used one. It's missing the screwdriver. It is included with the car, as well as a compressor.

I believe it would have went over a little better if he didn't phrase it that way. I think it looks a little underhanded the way he went about doing it.

I would have gone this route - if I really wanted to keep the kit.

"Just wanted to touch base with you regarding the car you are buying from me. I wanted to mention that the car does not have its original tool kit. I want to be clear that you will not be receiving a tool kit or compressor. If you assumed this, I am sorry. However, I did purchase a kit that I paid dearly for, which you can purchase if you would like. Let me know."

I mean he did purchase it for the car you bought, so I would kind of think he would be including it in the car you bought.

This used to go on all the time when I was dealing in used Ferraris. All kinds of Testarossa kits, BBi kits, 308 kits, you name it were missing from the car when they came into the shop. A month later the seller would contact us to see if we wanted to buy the "kit he just found in his garage." Never was it ever offered with the cars we bought free and clear. This happened all the time with myriad sellers - from the average joe to the dealer.

Once Porsche tool kits went from $100-$150 up to $1K these jokers all think they can pay for Christmas now with a kit - so they play games. It's unfortunately how it is.

The jewel and classic line in this though is "Just being entirely up front." Now that is hilarious. The upfront thing to do was mention it in the ad to begin with.

That *is* a pretty nice car however... Don't pull an itzame and 'wait for the next' - might take you another two years, or never at all.

I'd discuss with him that you were under the assumption car included both, and negotiate an all-in price from there.

Why would you assume it came with the tool kit? It wasn’t mentioned in the ad. What if it never came up and then you picked up the car and it wasn’t there, what then?

I think you are making a big stink about nothing and your reaction in here and slamming another member for something that you were managing offline is in poor taste.

Posting someone's messages is also poor form.

Having said that, the toolkit ... if it is original to the car, it belongs to the car and should be included. Same with the compressor. Otherwise, it depends as is the case here.

That's a fair reading of the p-car buying and selling bylaws to me.

I figured I was going to at least see a tool kit and compressor in one of the pics. How did the topic ever come up? Almost ever 911 I’ve bought is missing its tool kit and compressor. Come to think of it I bought a car from you without a toolkit and a compressor

Nice car but you are in or close to g50 territory at that price. For me the red would be a deal killer. However, if you really liked the car I would have passed on the tool kit and picked one up later. 1500 sounds about double unless I am way off on the tool kit market.
