Value of 3.0 mated with original 915
 

What would a 3.0 and 915 out of a 90,000 mile SC be worth? Car was stored for many years. Fresh air filter, oil and gas and engine fires right up and idles smoothly. Condition of transmission is unknown but car moves forward and backwards fine in driveway.

Bought a rough condition Targa locally with intentions of taking the drivetrain out and installing in a mid-year coupe that I was in the process of trying to buy at the same time. Lost the middie to another buyer and don't see another opportunity in the near future to find as good of a deal on another. I now have a Targa I really don't want.

I'm considering parting the Targa out and curious what you guys think the drivetrain is worth vs keeping the car together and selling whole. I've had a boatload of tire kickers at $16k price range for the complete car but no commitments. Targas are certainly a tougher sell than a coupe.

The other option I have considered is taking the drivetrain out and storing until I can use it, but I don't see a big market for an SC Targa roller and hate to have that kind of coin tied up for as long as it might take to find another mid year coupe.......

Post pictures and more details on the car. I just bought a middie coupe because I got fed up with targa shopping. I still want a targa. Maybe I'm the guy for your roller.

Matt, you buy the roller. I've got a '75 Targa with a worn trans and leaky 2.7. I'd love to drop a better 915 and 3.0 in it.

Anyone hazard a guess on the value of this drivetrain? I know details are lacking, hut give me a min/max. I'd like to price it reasonable if I decide to part the car.

Core value on the 3.0 is probably in the $5-6k range and $1-2k for the gearbox. Call it $7k and you could sell the chassis for another $7k, maybe a touch more.
