Here's one for discussion

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/873105-1985-3-2-carrera-targa-sale.html

I'm not a targa guy, but this car looks pretty good, and it has all the right fixes (from a quick look).

230k for $24k? It sounds pretty good to me...

Would have sold quickly 6 months or a year ago.

Now it's a multiple bump car.

Those miles start to get scary.... Even with top end done, the bottom is gonna be needing some love and that is gonna be $$$

I'm not sure why this one hasn't sold yet. If this had 150k miles it wouldn't be as"scary" but I think it'd also be $10k more in asking price. If the description is accurate this seems like a good deal for a driver quality car especially with the reputation of the mechanic.

I wouldn't be afraid of the miles as a car with good maintenance is often better than a car with low miles in my book. That is if the new owner plans on driving and using the car rather than keeping it garaged up.

Given who the seller/caretaker is I'm surprised as well. But I think the market is currently littered with 30-45yo first time buyers who are scared of the mileage. That's a car for someone who has owned a few over the years.

What he said.
$23K for a car that is going to need, or should have, a complete engine rebuild in the future is just scary money.
That's ignoring the "might as wells."

Car does photograph well, desirable color.....

First instinct was concerning mileage, I figure a bottom rebuild for $12,000. Now you have a $35,000 car w a rebuilt motor and trans.... reasonable especially if the color turns you on......

Top end was rebuilt 100,000 miles ago. We all know how long a factory fresh engine can go (this one rebuilt at 150k) . How long does an average rebuilt top end last? I'd plan on opening the case and doing a complete refresh in the next 50,000 miles. That's more than $12k I'd assume.

According to many, beverly hills car club cars are usually very rough and not a good deal.

Targas have a hard time finding homes for whatever reason.
The coupe at BHCC won't be there long.

More coupe owners need to experience driving a Targa. I have a coupe as well and do like the lines better over the Targa. Howoever, open air cockpit and engine sound over the roll bar ... sweet ride!
