Need help determining a selling price on a 911S
I have a 1977 911S Targa that I need some help determining a selling price. Some background on the car: the car was purchased around 1990 by my Dad. Quite a bit of work had been done on the car prior to his buying it.
1977 911 Targa 2.7L mileage 108,137 To my knowledge the car has never been in an auto accident and does not appear to have had any body work. The original color is black and it had a respray in black in 1990. The paint is not great; it is starting to lift around the edges and there is a chip along the decklid where the gap is not correct. There is also a place on the passenger side front wheel well that is blemished Below is the work that was done around 1989 to 1990 Window regulator Rear regulator Clutch disc Pressure plate Throughout bearing 2 heater vents Valve cover set (these appear to be aluminum) Mainshaft seal Timing Chain stereo upgraded to a Blaupunkt Phoenix SQR 29 (stereo and cassette player) Materials on the ticket show: key door handle (assuming interior) Fan Blade Rings Hose heater Guides Pulley engine fan Gasket set seals/oil tube Valve job & heads inserts seal tensioner kit welding (no idea about this but the fee was $40.00) It also appears that one of the heat exchangers was replaced at some point Ball bearing oil spark plugs air filter I know several of these items were just maintenance related My Dad drove it briefly and then it sat with gasoline in it for many years in a garage. In the past 14 months, this is what has been done to the car: new Dansk OES gas tank installed new fuel tank seal new fuel lines new fuel pump Injectors cleaned twice replaced fuel injection lines spark plugs spark plug wires Ignition rotor Distributor cap valve cover gasket set filler neck to fuel tank brake system bled tune up replaced another interior door handle front seats removed and reupholstered in German vinyl with perforated inserts to match the original seats replaced deck lid shock replaced the 2 hood shocks windshield wipers changed to home on passenger side pedal cluster rebuilt shift rebuilt - all 4 bushings replaced vacuum hoses replaced sending unit cleaned - gas gauge is now working 2 new tires Firestone Affinity Touring BL P195/65R15 89T 70,000 mile warranty 2 new tires Firestone Affinity Touring BL P215/60R15 93T 70,000 mile warranty (tires have less than 1,000 miles on them) oil changed July 31st, 2015 complete set of Porsche shop manuals (4 volumes) I also have the following parts that have not been installed air box pop off valve various gaskets oil pressure switch (appears to be leaking though working) extra air filters extra oil filter extra passenger side interior door handle The car has one or more oil leaks - several drops each night. It has been running and has been driven close to 800 miles in the past 6 weeks. It is currently not running after unsticking the plunger in the fuel distributor and getting the gas out of the motor, replacing the spark plugs and changing the oil. The engine turned over several times and started, but died. I don't know if it has air in the lines or what at this point. The only rust I have seen on the car is mild surface rust only on the area immediately above the front part of the engine - not on the deck lid. The felts in the bonnet are complete and the doors and door pockets are in very good condition. Currently the blower motor is out of the car. It works but needs a new blower hose (about $47.00 from our host) and the hoses that go to the heat exchangers need to be replaced - they are currently removed while it was being worked on. It needs front floor mats - one is dead, one is missing. Rear mats are good. The targa top needs a new outer skin. It fits tight, but it is original. There is also a small tear in the headliner at one of the seams though it doesn't flop on your head. I am interested in getting an idea of what the car is worth. I have looked at the Hagerty's website and their values seem low to me compared with what I see cars sell for. Your input would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Good project for someone.
Needs paint. not quite running, targa top needs restoration, cookie cutters instead of Fuchs. I think $10k, maybe just a tad more, is going to be pretty close to all the money for that one in its current state (which is about what Hagerty estimates for a condition 4 car). |

Worth more than 10k.. That car is all original and makes for a perfect candidate for a restoration. Nice car!

It has a cool look, get it running and it's probably a quick sell between 15-20k. I love cookie cutters.... and that red MGA.

Similar cars are selling on EBay for high teens and low 20s. Get the car running before you list it. You won't take a hit all the way to 10k, but it will be a hit of several thousand dollars. Might cost you $500 or more in labor to repair the CIS but every dollar didn't will return 3-5 on the sale.

So very few of these cars exist in this state. Many were abused, used, slant-nosed, flared, blown up, disco-sledded, repainted red and just not cared for.
No way this car is $10K. Sorry, but no way. Closer to $18K if not more. You never see them clean and the amount of work done to get this 911 going is going to save the future owner $3K to $5K alone with the new tank, pump, lines, etc. All the work getting this back on the road was done right and it is extremely time consuming not to mention frustrating when the motor fills with gas. This looks like a great car for anyone interested in a last year mid year. Or a mid year in general. I wouldn't be surprised if you got $24K on eBay. Again, you don't see them like this. The days of one of these going for $10K in this condition are long gone. |

In spite of the anemic power plant its a very pretty driver. I would think running it would sell quickly for somewhere in the high teens very low twenties. If i was looking for a middie Id be all over it.

In its current state it would sell now at $15K. I think it would sit at $20K.
