1982 911 SC Widebody

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/878674-fs-1982-911-row-sc-wide-body-fresh-engine-rebuild.html

Looks like a nice car. Couldn't be further from stock. Anyone ever dealt with EBS for an engine rebuild?

I have seen this car in person. I looked at another one of his car for sale and checked this one as well. It's very clean and owned by a real enthusiast. Although not stock by any means, but a very nice one. Someone is going to end up with a nice machine.

Are we allowed to say EBS's whole name here since they compete with Pelican? There are good people who have been doing this a long time. A lot of my overseas customers but their gearbox parts through them instead if direct from me because they are getting engine parts or complete engines from them. I personally wouldn't hesitate to buy a car with one if their engines in it.

Nothing to do with the quality of the car or engine, but who the efffff puts a "turbo" badge on a 911 that is not equipped with a turbocharger? Guess that was the finishing touch to the sheep in wolf's clothing concept of the build?

Guy was going after turbo clone without the expense of a turbo. Even has a boost gauge..........non working of course.

My new 74 was the same. Turbo gauge, slantnose conversion and a 3.2 swap. Weird stuff.

Well, I bit the bullet and worked out a deal with the seller. Good people. Always loved the widebody cars. This one is much more affordable than an $80k 930!

After looking at the build sheet it isn't exactly a sheep in wolfs clothing. More like a rabbid coyote in wolfs clothing

3.0 to 3.3ss conversion
100mm LN Nickies with JE pistons 9.8:1 CR and 70.4 stroke
Running PMO carbs with Mod s cams and M&K exhaust with headers

Car has got to be a bit lighter than a stock 930 also which should be a hoot.

My only concern is that it has 100mm cylinders with 9.8:1 CR pistons and single plug ignition. I am no expert, but my understanding is anything over 98mm is preferred to use dual plug ignition. I am assured by EBS that they have done a bunch of engines in this configuration with great success running premium fuel. I guess they are the experts and I will trust their judgement. I'll just go out of my way a bit to make sure I find gas stations that run 93 octane. Few and far between where I live.

I am excited to own this car!

Then there is my buddy Tracy, with his very clean, SC

But under that Carrera wing hides a secret

And now there are 2 turbos hiding under there

I don't know, U.S. 930 made 282 BHP. I'm told by a very well known engine builder......3rd party to this deal, that this engine should make north of 250 BHP. That's not bad considering this car will be lighter than a real 930. Might be close in HP/weight ratio all said and done.

I'm not saying I won't get rid of the turbo badge, because I will. Not sure if I'll find something cool to throw on there or just leave it naked. I can't afford a 930 or the maintenance that goes along with it. This fits the bill for me, and I think it'll make a great driver.

That's a great engine. It doesn't need to be twin plug. That's pretty much max compression without doing it.

Congrats on the car. I'm sure you will be happy with it.

Thanks Matt, LN confirmed the same. They said twin plug would be "ideal" but single wouldn't be a problem with this engine. Your input further minimizes my concerns. This will be my first car with a modded engine, so I'll be cutting my teeth with this car.

Lee, cool that you bought a car that you like. I am a "modified car" freakazoid, and think a modded 911 of any type (turbo or not) is far superior to a stocker.

I wanted to mention that had I known you were interested in buying the car, I would have skipped the "sheep in wolf's clothing" comment, as I am not familiar with your sense of humor and generally don't throw barbs in jest unless I know that the recipient is game for it. That said, I really was just making fun of the turbo badging (hadn't noticed the detail of the inop boost gauge installed) which I think is very funny, and not the car in general, which sounds pretty cool to me.

BTW, if I was looking to buy a Turbo at current pricing, I could only dream, and the only way that I can afford the maintenance & modding of mine is that I do all of the work, except for engine component machining work, etc; if I had to pay a shop to work on my car, then no way in Hades could I afford it.

No argument from me about that - if a RS-RSR tribute build lacks the appropriately powered engine, then that is equally funny to the Turbo badged, non-turbocharged concept, to me.

Congratulations, great looking car. Not long ago I bought a 75 wide body with a 79 3.0 ROW motor, also had the pathetic Turbo badge. Enjoy it. Tim
