It's not in a barn, but...

I've been stalking a friends Porsche that he's had in storage for years. He finally knuckled under to the pressure  and is ready to sell. I went to the storage unit a couple of weekends ago to look at it. The storage is a high elevation, low humidity environment.

It's a 1973.5 911T (CIS) non-sunroof in Tangerine. It has been in storage for 18 years. The paint is immaculate and appears to be all original, zero rust (even the battery boxes). The engine compartment is clean, updated tensioners, although it appears to have some oil leaks from the bottom end. The interior is excellent, no cracks in the dash or rear parcel shelf, but the headliner has some staining (which I find curious) and will need to be replaced. I sniffed the fuel tank and surprisingly it smells exactly like gas should smell, although I have no illusions on this and am assuming the whole fuel system, from tank to injectors will need some level of attention. The mice have been lurking in and around it, but there is little to no damage. I checked as much of the wiring harness as possible and found no munching.

I'm no newb to Porsche's, I currently own a '78 SC. I'm capable, and willing of doing all the work myself, except maybe the fuel system. I have a $ value in mind, as well as a $ budget in mind for what it would take to get it road worthy again, but feedback from this forum would be appreciated.

Thoughts?

Cool find, post pics! What's the mileage on it?

I think that hole in your garage where the money goes is about to get considerably larger ;)

Well found. Was this car from Bailey? When did it last run?

TBone78SC 09-04-2015 02:38 PM

One more...

And the current ride, which might have to be sacrificed. Hard to justify having five cars...

TBone78SC 09-04-2015 02:49 PM

No, car is not from Bailey. Last time it was on the road was 1997.

puddy 09-04-2015 03:00 PM

Wow that looks like such a clean car! Good score!

Are you planning on doing any off the work yourself?

I'd do two things right away.

Grab a large extinguisher.
Pull the sending unit and see what the tank bottom looks like.

He could throw that car on Samba or EBay and get $45-50k for it as it sits. Whatever under that you can get it for is a bonus.

E Sully 09-05-2015 04:38 AM

Looks great. Only thing I saw in the photos is the dash is a replacement.

NYNick 09-05-2015 04:50 AM

I be all over that baby like stink on s#*t.

73.5TinPA 09-05-2015 04:55 AM

It could bring $60K from the right buyer.

It is clean, desirable color and in very good shape.

Wouldn't take much to get it running, suck out any old fuel.

The engine condition needs to be determined, will effect value.

techweenie 09-05-2015 06:26 AM

Everything else being as good as those pictures, I'd say $75K easy.

ficke 09-05-2015 06:47 AM

So since this is a friend do you offer him full market price? do you help him sell it for full market and take a cut?
Maybe you offer him 45K, that would be a sleep at night price on that car I would think, you get some friend gift and he has a easy sell and helped a friend out.
I think if you bought it for anything less than 45K people would start using words like "steal" which would not sit well with a friend transaction.

Racerbvd 09-05-2015 06:55 AM

Only one thing that I would do to that car, get the correct mirror on the door.
No need to justify owning only 5 cars, if you enjoy them do.
This is a car that you pretty much only clean & tour with, the SC looks like a car that can be enjoyed at her fullest, one that can, and should be driven hard and fast (under proper circumstances)
