Thinking About Selling My Targa
I have owned my -84 targa for 15+ years now and thinking about selling it because -- I dunno, ready for something different I guess. The car has been to a couple of DEs but it's too nice for the track. It's red/black w linen hi-back sport seats. It has some decent 'upgrades': h4s, b&b exhaust, 22mm anti-sway bars and some other stuff. No a/c at this time. Most importantly, I have all records from my ownership and all previous owners. Car has 111k miles and had a professional glass out&strip repaint ~10 years ago.
I have observed 84-89 Carrera values anywhere from $25k to crazy lately. I figure the present value of the car might worth somewhere around $35k? I would be interested in finding a good home for the car and don't want to deal with flippers etc. I was going to start with a fs post on PP once my final decision to sell to go ahead. Any thoughts?

I ran across this while looking at a 993 listing. Might be one data point for you?

Thanks for the link. That targa looks pretty decent, not a bad color either. Although, I would expect there to be a binder full of receipts for a -86, especially since they mentioned it has great service history? 90k miles - I remember the clutch in my car needed replacement right around then.

No a/c meaning it was removed or just doesn't blow cold?
Even though autumn is approaching, that could limit your market. Oh yeah, forgot to add... THIS THREAD IS USELESS WITHOUT PICTURES |

You seem on the fence. What would you replace it with if you had the money already in hand? Another Porsche? Another brand? another hobby? I'd say if you feel the same in another week or two about selling and have something in mind, go for it. If there's nothing that you are screaming to have, I'd just say keep the 911 and enjoy it when you can.
Since its a Targa, I'd offer my 944 straight up in trade ![]()

Red/black with mismatched seats
110,000 miles repainted '85 Can't be sold into California or other smog test states without a lot of work (so you limit your pool of buyers) Removed AC I think with all of the above, $35K is high for an actual sale price. You do see some crazy sale numbers sometimes for the 84-89 Carreras, but those are almost always low mile, original paint, original condition, no excuses cars. I'd say around mid to mid-upper 20s. |
