1981 928 manual
Just happened upon an ad for an 81 928 with manual transmission. 70k miles. Only a couple pics and they're small. Gold over tan leather, looks tired but nothing jumps out in the pics except steering wheel hub is missing. For argument's sake, let's assume it runs and I can drive it home. What would this be worth, as a general ballpark? I know that's difficult to guess based on so little information, but I'm quite clueless as to the 928 market.
The idea would be to drive it for a year or 2 and sell it for whatever I've got in it. All work would be DIY. Early 928s are an itch I've always had.

If it's a manual, then it's automatically rare (no pun intended).
I would say anywhere between $3 and $6K. These things eat money really, really fast as they have been bottom-feeder cars for so long - owned by people who couldn't even afford an oil change never mind ATE brake fluid. I'd do it - it would be fun for sure. But don't expect to get your money back or break even. It would be an exercise in fun. The market may change, but they are getting up there in age (like around 40 years) so stuff wears out. |

That's the kicker right there, though. It might be fun, but I've already got an expensive mistress in a 43-year-old 911. It'd have to be a financial wash, in the end when the time came to sell.

Ask your mechanic, see what he says. Mine? He says no way.

Probably not the same thing as mechanic's fixing their own cars!
