What's that giant goiter on its back??

Actually, based on the vin and mention of a 3.0, what that guy has hiding under that 959 bodywork is a 1976 Carrera 3.0. As long as he's not smoking crack on his pricing, that car is worth every cent of saving.

That's what I get for just trusting Paternie's Redbook without thinking. I should know middie Carreras of all years have a 6 in the 5th position (except the US model which is a 4).

Misinformation on these numbers is so common. The worst is eingine numbers for 1968, and second worst is paint codes where 64 64 and 64 10 are the same exact color, but the first is for a coupe and the second for a Targa (huh?).

I saw that coupe targa paint code thing mentioned the other day in a discussion about the half a dozen different Guards red paint codes. I never knew that one before.

I've got Barth's Porsche Book which can be super confusing because he generally uses year production was started as a heading, but then all the vins are for the actual model year. So a lot of cars are offset by a year in how he describes them, but then the vin is what we are used to for the year.
