The 996 TwinTurbo tiptronic continues to go unloved
I can't understand why these cars go unsold in the mid 30s..... Is there maintenance issues that I'm unaware of? This blue one is downright gorgeous. Can anyone explain this? I'm sure once we get into the middle of winter you could pick this baby up for low 30's
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/ctd/5237172097.html Or this one in the pelican classifieds: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/874336-fs-2001-porsche-911-996-twin-turbo-tiptronic-pampered-performance-upgrades.html These are absolute Rocketships, I just don't understand. |

What year was yours and how many miles did you put on it? What kind of problems did you have?

I'd think most sports car/Porsche enthusiasts getting a 15-year-old used car will want a manual transmission, for one.
It's also an uphill sell with the unloved 996 aesthetics, and an interior design that hasn't aged well. |

The 996TT is a great car, period. Looks aside (and who can see those headlights from inside the car anyway?), the car kicks some serious tail, and is stil a great value for the money. But automatic transmissions suck. PDK less so, but Tiptronic just plain blows goats (and Ronnie would know EXACTLY how bad that is.) So it's a very steep discount.

It will be curious to watch the values of 997 Turbo and GT3 PDK versus the manual transmission cars in the future. The PDK is loved more than the Tiptronic certainly but will it be more desirable than the same manual trans car?
It wouldn't mind a 996 Turbo but manual trans only!

I think the manuals will be more valuable for the foreseeable future as they go completely extinct in new cars.

Tip...
I think most enthusiasts (especially in used performance cars) avoid automatic transmissions like the plague - they would rather drive a stick shift of any kind than drive an automatic.
I wonder what RUF would charge to convert one to a manual? |

My 996tt is a Tip and I like it. Great for driving in traffic, running errands and just cruising.
